Guest guest
I always fast no matter what test I do. If I am doing it in the morning. I can't find the info anywhere--does this need to be a fasting blood draw? I should have said RBC potassium test with electrolyte panel. Sorry for the mistake. Guest guest
Forgot to maybe you should ring the lab. My dad did a potassium level a few months ago and he was drinking red wine the night before and his and it was 5.3 and it never gets below 5 but then he took when he did not drink and fasted the morning of test and it was 4.7. Guest guest
Thanks, Sky. The lab won't answer this question--they say to ask the doctor. That's why I posted here; I figured some of the people here would be very familiar with these tests, and I couldn't get back in touch with my doctor. Guest guest
This is what I did which is posted on the adrenal site: Sodium and Potassium Question: I AM TESTING SODIUM AND POTASSIUM, WHAT DO I AVOID THE DAY BEFORE Answer: When testing sodium and potassium only (not aldosterone) you use your regular amount of potassium and salt the day before. You do not use any salt or take any potassium in the morning before your blood draw. Resume you normal amount after the blood draw, which should be done fasting first thing am. If you are taking Florinef you do NOT take Florinef in the AM before the blood draw. Resume immediately after blood draw. > > I just posted this question: I'm to have an RBC test with electrolyte panel tomorrow.
