Jodi,

I was diagnosed with Crohn's in my terminal ileum and had a section of the

terminal ileum removed in 1967.

The odds are that people with narrowing and disease in the ileum from Crohn's

that have a resection will often end up needing another resection at some point.

That was true for me. I probably should have had a second resection in the 80's

but I was reluctant to do that because I figured that the longer I put it off,

the less total resections I'd need in my life.

The other reason was that I was seriously testing the adage that you can never

be too thin. At 6' 1 " , my weight varied from 140 down to 128.

Then I discovered the SCD and started it in 1995. My weight fairly rapidly went

from 128 up to 170 and then stabilized in the 168 to 174 range. It really seems

true that the SCD normalizes weight for both underweight and overweight people.

With my better weight, plus the prospect of the SCD likely to keep me from ever

needing a resection again, I had my second (and probably last) resection in

1997. The laporoscopic surgery went well except that the scarred section was so

hard that they had to make a larger incision because it was to ridgid to fit

through the usual small incision used with laproscopic resections.

I was back doing fairly physical work 2 weeks after the surgery. I'm the person

that wrote the article about sugar in wine, and grape harvest that year was 2

weeks after my surgery.

14 years after starting SCD and 12 years after my resection all is still OK. My

routine colonoscopies at age 50 and 60 showed no evidence of Crohn's.

Tom,

Thank you so much for writing this..

Reading about others post-surgery and how SCD works makes me feel so much better

going into this. Many of you don't hang here anymore as you are living healthy

lives :)

I have so much anxiety when I think about the surgery and hospitalization.

I never want to be in this position ever again in my life.

Let alone needing to contemplate Cancer.

Much appreciation!

My routine colonoscopies at age 50 and 60 showed no evidence of Crohn's.
