flu question

I think I have read somewhere, but am not sure.

Ever since I got back from visiting my parents, I just haven't felt that

wonderful. Kinda like the flu is coming. I have also noticed for the first

time,

blood in my urine. I know it is there from the tests, but once the other

day, it was like kool aid. It kinda worried me, but I hadn't had very much to

drink over the passed 2 days. (7 hour drive with 2 cats, didn't want to stop

much and then out to the barn to care for my sick horse the next day) I figured

I was dehydrated. The next day things were a little better, but now I just

don't feel to well...not really bad, but enough to know I don't feel the best.

If that makes any since. I am on CellCept and know how easy it is for me to

get sick. My question is....Is it normal to have blood in the urine more when

you are sick? Should I be calling the doc. My PC doc gave me some Tamiflu to

take if I feel sick, but is there anything else I should do?

Sorry to ramble on here, but first time being sick since all this.

Hi ,

I'm sorry you are under the weather - both renally and flu-wise. Cellcept

is not that major an immunosuppressant, so I wouldn't immediately think that

it's the culprit to you being sick (although if your overall health is not

great, it can certainly tip the balance). It's kind of common for patients

who are have colds or the flu to experience a worsening of renal symptoms -

a " flare up " , if you will. This can take the form of temporarily increased

proteinuria and or hematuria. I don't know how safe Tamiflu is for those

with kidney disease. I'd report your symptoms to your neph and ask him

about the Tamiflu just to be safe.

I hope you and your horse both feel better.

It's common for IgAN patients to have darker urine when they have a cold, a

flu or whatever. This is because what is usually microscopic blood in the

urine becomes macroscopic. If you've never had it though, and you do now,

and you've started on Cellcept, it might be prudent to call your doctor and

get instructions, just in case.

Hi ,

I am sorry you are starting out the new year not feeling well. I would put a

call into your Neph since you have not experienced macroscopic blood in your

urine before. Dehydration does not cause macroscopic blood. Usually it is

caused by a viral infection, most commonly a respiratory illness.

I hope you feel better soon!
