I'm a sexual abuse survivor and fat has been a way for me to feel physically and emotionally safe from men. It's tripped me up in previous weight loss attempts. I've had a lot of therapy and group experience and now know that I will do whatever I need to do to feel safer as I get smaller. I may take a self-defence course or learn a martial art, carry pepper spray, make sure my home is well protected, etc. Whatever it takes. I don't know if I have trouble saying no. Nobody's been asking! : ) Have you ever had counseling? Maybe talking with a professional would help. I believe there is a way to feel safe without putting our bodies through extra weight. --- Debra Down 51.6 pounds 9.8 pounds left of my Season Pass Challenge

Guest guest
I had the opposite problem, I think I stayed fat so long because I am mistrustful by nature and had trouble saying yes...but if I was fat then no one tried and I could stay safe from having to 'put myself' out there. I'm impressed that you are addressing the issue....a lot of people don't realize that we don't just eat for no reason... Kat 282/279.4/254 10% > Hello. Guest guest
Therapy! Boy have I tried therapy. I even had one bodybuilding therapist insist that if I lost weight all of my life would be rosy. I’ve also considered taking up a martial art to reinforce my feeling of inner power and control. Currently, I’m really enjoying bodybuilding. I’m trying trade ‘fat big’ for ‘muscle big.’ Another thing I’m trying is hiding behind a fake engagement ring. It’s not as affective as making myself ugly since men don’t seem to notice the ring but it helps. Thanks for the feedback.
