Hi Sara,I have UC too, and I was wondering the same things. Even when my BMs are fairly normal, I still get awfully bloated and gassy. Also, had anyone with UC or anything else ever had problems with a flushed, sort of burning sensation in your face or around your lips? I've been getting that a lot recently, and I'm not sure if it's related or not.Thanks!AlyssaI have tried this diet for the past 1 1/2 years but never went back to the intro diet. And of course I cheated here and there. I got relief from symptoms for awhile and felt great, but they came back as I added little bits of illegals. So, as of 2 1/2 weeks ago I started from square one. My main symptom with UC is bloody, gassy diarrhea. My question is, as I go along adding things every few days (to make sure I don't have a food sensitivity) am I going for no gas whatsoever? I'm wondering if the gas I have periodically is a result of a food intolerance or because my colon is still healing. It almost seems from other posts I've read, that I shouldn't be having any gas at all. And that feels impossible! I would really like to hear from someone who has UC with success on the diet. My gas has decreased considerably since turning the corner with the

SCD. About 6 weeks ago (4 months and 1 week on the diet) everything

improved dramatically and it seems I can go pretty much all day w/o

any gas. If you're having lots of gas I'd guess it's something you're

eating.

Thank you Jill and Doug for your helpful advice/comments. I have been trying to

eat smaller meals more often and that seems to help with my gas. I'm also

adding foods carefully and watching for any negative effects. Alyssa, another

person on this group named Kathy gave me the advice of eating slower. Eating

smaller meals slowly seems to help me. I just find I'm so hungry, I want to eat

quickly! I did have a dry burning sensation with my lips for a few days before

I started the intro diet. I'm not sure what that was all about, but it went

away. It was very annoying, though.

Hey, I'm pretty much in the same boat as you. I get better on SCD, introduce

some illegals, get bad again, start intro again and get better....it cycles.

However, I don't think it's possible to become completely gas free. I mean even

people who are perfectly healthy and have no IBD at all still get some gas, and

especially if they eat foods like beans. This is normal. So for us, some gas

will occur even when you get better and you are eating entirely legal foods.

For example, high fiber vegetables that you may eat in advanced stages (like

cauliflower, or peas) will cause gas. But I don't think this is necessarily

bad. So far from all of my experiments on myself over the past ~3 years on SCD

I've discovered there is 'good' gas and 'bad' gas. I can clearly distinguish

between the two when I start eating illegal foods. The good gas is generally

not so smelly, comes out very dry, usually not silent and results in no

instability whatsoever in the bowels. The bad gas on the other hand is the

opposite and just feels different, it has a different quality to it that kinda

tells you that what you are eating is not good.

And don't forget, gas can also result simply from swallowing air from say eating

too fast, swallowing too much, etc.
