Guest guest
I've found that the only thing that truly works for me to get rid if angioedema is methylprednisolone. I'll take at least 8mgs and the angioedema will slowly go away over the next few hours. If I don't do this the lovely swelling is with me for 1-2 days. I often detract from the ugliness of the swelling with humor, so I tell people that pays thousands of dollars to get what I get for free! I used to get angioedema about 3-5 times a week. Oddly enough, it would migrate around my lips when I got it there. For example, I would get swelling on my upper left lip one day, then my lower right lip would swell the next, followed by my upper right lip and finally my lower left lip. I haven't had my entire upper or lower lip swell up for about the past year. I finally linked my angioedema to eating food dyes/colorings or taking ibuprofen, so I haven't had any angioedema (except for one episode, described below) for the past 5 months or so that I've been avoiding these foods. Since I've been doing pretty well for the past few months I thought I'd try taking 200mgs of ibuprofen for my " coming off prednisone pain " two days ago. Mistake! My upper left lip swelled up like crazy within 2 hours, and to top it off the ibuprofen didn't even relieve my pain! I had to take 8mgs of methylprednisone to make it go away. Ugh! > Anyone have success treating angioedema? What did you use? > BB in Boston

Guest guest
Barbara: You go all the way from Boston to see him, right? When are you going next? I have an appt. in January, the 22nd, at 2:30. Listen we have to do what's best for us. If you try a new Dr., you don't have to say anything to him. You are not obligated. He is supposed to be so good, the 'top' hive Dr. in the East, or so I heard, but if he is not open to new ideas that is not good. Let's see what happens. Maybe if we both approach him about something we/ve heard about his mind will open up a little. Or, maybe not and then it's time to move on. Let me know what you think. Guest guest
Oh Barbara I know how you feel, no hope etc. I have been getting worse this past year and now when I get a wee lump I am always thinking " is this it? " I went south to England 500 miles and had a few lumps there and thought " No, not here, but as long as they don't put me to bed I can live with it, even if I am scratching and look lousy. lol. Don't care what people think. I had boby covered quite a bit this week but didn't make me ill so I am always thankful for that. Take care everyone Berenice in Scotland. Oh by the way, how many Brits here? >>DearTami, I have the same idea. I am afraid to leave him because he IS supposed to be the expert . I am in the throws of angioedema. My wrist and hand is swollen as is a huge patch on my shoulder. It hurts like H-LL. I feel my lip starting to go too. Isn;'t there something we angio hivers can take to keep them down? I am bummed out as you can see. Merry Christmas Barbara<<
