Yep, all this is very good info. Water is so good and necessary for us but with all the additives and other stuff, you do have to know what it is you are pouring down your throat. I am drinking bottled water by the gallon currently even though we have the filtration cuz that doesn’t remove the flouride added to our water and I don’t want to risk that... Oy!

a river that has a high perchlorate (not harmful *eyeroll*

just 'high') so that is why I drink unflouridated water, as I think

that added to my thyroid problem because many people here have

thyroid/endocrine problems. I'm also chemically sensitive to the

water my husband and I have in our home. Nothing wrong with it, it

tests fine... I'm just sensitive to it. Whenever I drink tap water

or really 'thick' water like well water, it upsets my stomach...

anyone else have that happen?? I've always had this problem and I

think it's my body's preference. We lived in one house where the

cleanest water being used was in the toilet and taking a shower

burned my skin... the house was a slum and the pipes had about 1/2 "

or so of rust built up in them... water came out looking like iced

tea *shudder*. When we used the humidifier there, it would burn my

skin, fibro like... when you have a reaction to something and your

skin feels like it's on fire where ever you touch it... sucked. I'm

happy to say, I don't have that happen anymore. Unless I'm around

certain chemicals which are not located inside my house.

I had stomach problems a few years ago, a few docs later and a few

scopes later they still could not figure out what was causing it..

The only thing they agreed on is I had scar like tissue down my

esophagus and in the stomach lining..not ulcers but from an allergic

reaction..we went through food etc. and the only thing pin pointed

is they had upped the chlorine levels in the water supply due to

some contruction on main supply pipes, water mains etc.. I now have

a reverse osmosis water system in my kitchen..I use it for my

drinking water, cooking, coffee etc..guess what..no more stomach

problems..makes you wonder..

Yes water is good for us but at the risk of being

controversial can I draw attention to the pollution

that bottling water causes?

The following is from

http://www.wateryear2003.org/en/ev.php-URL_ID=5226 & URL_DO=DO_TOPIC & URL_SECTION=2\

01.html

Environmental Impacts

Plastic bottles

Plastics are made from oil and natural gas, both of

which are non-renewable resources. More than 1.5

million tons of plastic are used to bottle water. PET

(the substance that water bottles are made of)

requires less energy to recycle than glass or

aluminum, and releases fewer emissions into the

atmosphere. The processes used to make plastics

however can cause serious pollution affecting both the

environment and human health if left unregulated.

The majority of plastic bottles are not being recycled

and are very quickly piling up and filling landfills

around the world. Since plastic breaks down at a very

slow rate, these will remain in our landfills for

hundreds of years to come.

Transportation

A quarter of the 89 billion litres of water bottled

worldwide annually are consumed outside their country

of origin. Emissions of the green house gas carbon

dioxide, caused by transporting bottled water within

and between countries, contribute to the global

problem of climate change. Nevertheless, 75% of the

world bottled water is produced and distributed on a

regional scale, thus limiting transports.

What can we do?

Bottled waters should not be considered a sustainable

alternative to tap water. They are not exempt of

periodical contamination and are less energy-

efficient than tap water. However not all countries

have the benefit of clean tap water. Clean water is a

basic right. Protecting our rivers, streams and

wetlands will help ensure that tap water remains a

public service which delivers good quality drinking

water for everyone at a fair price.

As a consumer, make responsible choices and do not

forget the 3 R's:

Reduce your consumption

Reuse your water bottles

Recycle your bottles after you are finished with them.

Other solutions include buying filters for your taps,

doing some research on your national water standards

and buying water from local sources. In some

instances, water bottles are actually filled with tap

water and sold as bottled water. For your safety and

health always make sure that the security seal is

intact before drinking any bottled water.

I rent mine from CanadianSprings, I pay monthly but they change the

filters for me and test the water etc. and being a large family it is

cheaper than using bottled water or the water coolers..especially for

how much I use it for..
