Guest guest
Hi To All- I'm going into the hospital tomorrow night for an IV iron infusion on Tuesday. My latest blood labs from 3/31 showed that my hemoglobin was 9.7 and my ferritin 20. Hematocrit was 30.08. I expect that it's a bit better a wek late but I still feel winded with effort and tired. I am expecting my period later this week and hope that the iron helps me. If I were to bleed now, I think I'd be in very bad shape. I' changed from Feosol to Chromagen and I feel a bit better, tho still constipated - will try prube juice (the prunes don't seem to be helping, and Metamucil tiI I can get my hands on Psyllium. There's no good health food place in my neighborhood. I do have 2 gyn appts. tomorrow before going to hospital; 1 with an RE and one with a Fibroid guy. My hematologist is concerned about he bleeding and advised me to have the hysterectomy. " The uterus is only for making babies " , was his philosophy, but I didn't want to get into it with him so all I said was that I disagreed. I think I'll have to type out what Dr. Warshowsky writes in his book about the uterus' many uses beyond baby-making and print it out like a handbill every time I hear that. Has anyone had the iron infusion? Apparently they test you with a small amount the night before to see if there is any reaction, and if not, they do it the next day, which takes 4-6 hours, and then send you home. I only hope that I can keep it all in my system for a few days before the bleeding starts again. It's snowing again in NYC! Jan
Guest guest
Hi Jan, My name is Di Harper, a new member today. I have been told I have a fibroid the size of a 10-12week pregnancy and a submucosal fibroid too - not too big yet. I have very heavy periods, changing super plus extra tampons every hour and use pads too for the heavy bleeding. My gynae is very good in that he isnt insisting on hysterectomy and said leave it and see how it goes. The thing is Im getting constant groin pain and it radiates around my hip and my back - does this sound like its one of the fibroids pressing? Ive a huge belly and die of embarrassment a lot of the time cos I know people think Im pregnant at 50 years of age? Can you tell me of your fibroids and your symptoms Great to hear from people in the same boat Any advice ladies would be wonderful!! All the best to all Di

Guest guest
Hi, Jan - Good luck with your iron infusion. I had one about a year and a half ago, and it was very helpful. My Hg went from 8 to 12 within a month! Within 2 weeks, I noticed improvement. I went in the morning, they tested me, and then did the IV. It was very easy to do. Then, I drove home. The only thing they worried about was an allergic reaction, so they watch you carefully. I felt wiped out for a couple of days, but continued to go to work. As my Hg is now 9-9.5 again, I may have to go for another IV. Good luck to you! I hope it helps -
