Guest guest
Beth, There is a good chance that you have gluten sensitivity, which can explain both your joint and digestive problems. For more information, do a www.google.com search on the phrase: + " gluten sensitivity " +arthritis I suggest that you go on a gluten-free diet as an experimental basis for one month. You should see immediate benefit the next day; however, complete healing of intestines may take from 6 to 12 months. Gluten is found in high concentration in wheat, barley and rye, but it is also added to most processed foods -- which you should avoid. I suggest that you read " The Living Gluten-Free Answer Book " by Suzanne Bowland. Full-blown celiac disease, which leads to destruction of villi (tiny, fingerlike protrusions lining the small intestine) only applies to only 1% of the population. However, as much of 30% of the population has varying degrees of gluten sensitivity. Among the more common symptoms of gluten sensitivity are joint and muscle pain. Your rheumatologist, like mine, may not be up to date on gluten sensitivity and may simply state, " You don't have celiac disease because you are not undernourished.
