Guest guest
Me! My father was an orange read head, I have had red hair of one shade or another all my life as well. Not sure how far back it goes, but that kind of red hair with freckles is a recessive trait that one parent must be redhead & the other carrying it for it to show up. Weird, I know little of my natural father's health, my Mother's side was where I inherited the thyroid problems from. She was dark brown haired and very French looking. Guest guest
I have/had a dark chestnut colored hair, with many red highlights, originally. However, it is my two blondish haired daughters with the light eyes (not brown) and fair skin who got Hashimoto's, as well as me, and I also have very fair skin. My youngest girl from a second marriage has the darker chestnut hair and dark brown eyes like me, and darker skin like HER father's side, and has no indication of thyroid disease, we don't think, at this point. She had no learning problems in school either. Both of my light eyed girls did. Remember that the children most often affected by ADD and ADHD are also statiistically inclined to have the fair hair, fair skin, and color range blue eyes also. See any connection there with thyroid disease? I do. One of the two daughters from that first marriage has a definite natural red streak in her hair, and the rest is almost a strawberry blonde, the other one has a very light brown to blonde, but I have to keep in mind that she would be carrying the gene for the reddish hair because THEIR father had the shock of curly red hair, with a tinge of brown in it. My mother's side of the family is strong for Indian and Scotch heritage, but my father's side is very strong for German, Nordic, Indian, and tell me that the Forsythes aren't very English, hehe! It seems to me as though in almost every case, that the strong German and Nordic heritage is always strong for thyroid disease. Well...before I had the prematurely gray of hypo...I had auburn hair - nice reddish highlights. My mom with Hashi's...the same way...reddish hair that went gray. My Dad...who I have suspected of having low thyroid too (they tend to marry I understand)...also reddish highlights. Cindi
Guest guest
Hmmmmm, I'm a red head too. I know that we are harder to put under anesthesia and have a higher pain tolerance, but I didn't know that thyroid issues were part of the package too. Guest guest
Ther are some redheads in my family, although not in the immediate family. However, my almost black, hair had read highlights, that is until it turned gray. I started graying early. I am 50 as of last Friday. Maybe we should do a poll something like: My natural hair (before graying, if applicable) was (1) Was Red, (2) Had Red highlights, (3) Neither Blessings, Debbie K. Guest guest
Just to answer your poll question: 1) I was always a stawberry blonde with more red highlights than blonde. Now I'm a more red strawberry blonde thanks to Miss Clairol... or whatever the hairdresser uses. Being REDHEAD and hypothyroid >redheads are frequently low thyroid - even reddish highlights. Guest guest
I'v never had an operation so I can't answer this. I do know when I have dental work it takes a long time for the novacaine or whatever they use to even start wearing off. On my dad's side I am Dutch and German. On my mother's side I am English, French, ish and Welsh. Thanks to the French side I have brown hair and brown eyes and medium skin. Don't sunburn easy. Also before my mother passed away (when I was in my early 20's) she noticed I was going grey. Tigger ================================= Another redhead here. I read on a website about a year ago that having red hair is a risk factor for thyroid problems. I know many people with thyroid problems that have red hair, so maybe there's something to this. __________________________________________________

Guest guest
I get google emails on thyroid issues, and this came in my email last night. http://theedge.bostonherald.com/teenNews/view.bg?articleid=41919 talks about the correlation with premature greying and thyroid problems.
