Guest guest
Hi Lori, that is great news about being weaned down on the Prednisone, and even better news that her labs are so wonderful! A creatinine of .07 should be about 100% function for her. Great results from the Prednisone. If has been averaging 1200 mg of sodium a day, she can definitely ease up a bit there and that should make her happy. I saw my nutritionist recently and was told that it is better to not deny ourselves of things we really want, but to keep it in moderation and if I overdo one day, just be more careful the next day. It sounds like you got similar advise. Thanks for sharing your great new Lori! I am rejoicing with you for . Guest guest
Lori, My baseline Creatinine when I was a teenager was .06 to .07 so that is probably right for . Boys tend to have higher baselines than girls because they have more muscle mass just the way their bodies are made. If her labs are so good, I think she will adjust to the Prednisone wean just fine. Most of our members, with the exception of Amy and seem to have had a good adjustment to the wean as far as their labs go. n a message dated 12/28/2004 5:44:18 PM Pacific Standard Time, littlell523@... writes: > You know I never thought to ask about calcium. Guest guest
Congratulations on the pred wean!! Woo Hoo!!! Don't stress too much about her kidneys worsening with the pred wean, most people do really well on the drug and do quite well weaning off it...I think it's just those of us with names that end in 'Y' GarY...AmY...that have problems coming down off the stuff. They monitor you very close on pred so they will be able to catch any nose dives in her labs quickly, cross that bridge if you ever come to it. I got down to 10mg daily then started an upward trend in my protein spill and creatinine again when I dropped under that...they bumped me back to the 10mg and it balanced back out. Now I'm on a wean that is supposed to continue until I'm off but " we'll see what my next set of labs shows " . Like I'm happy the pred has given me 15 months (so far) of stablity I wouldn't have had. Without it I would have beenl looking at dialysis or transplant by now. I'm glad to hear that her neph gave her some diet tips and said she could loosen up a bit every so often. I love Taco Bell too but learnt quickly that eating there equals feeling ill for a few days afterwards due to the salt. Now I order a taco salad, no cheese, extra lettuce, with the meat and beans on the side. This way I can regulate how much of the " bad stuff " I put on and the taco salad bowls are lower in salt than the regular taco shells. Tell that girl of yours Congratulations for me and keep up the good work..it will pay off in the grand scheme of things! Guest guest
Thanks for checking in and letting us know how the neph visit went. It sounds like you guys are getting the new year off on the right foot. I'm so happy that responded to prednisone. It's great that you guys have a drug that works for her. I know I was very scared initially that would be steroid-resistant (granted, that's more of a problem for MPGN than IgAN). I hope dropping the dose to 60 mg makes things easier to handle. Generally, side effects are dose dependent - meaning that there are fewer of them at lower doses.
