Guest guest
Sue, Sounds like you might be doing A/C. I had 6 mo of chemo. I got an IV push of methotrexate and 5fu the first two Tues. of the month. The third week I took Cytoxan pills and the fourth week I rested. This went on for 6 mo. This was back in 1990. I will keep you in my prayers. hugs nne Breast Cancer Patients Soul Mates for Life http://www.geocities.com/chucky5741/breastcancerpatients.html BreastCancerStories.com http://www.breastcancerstories.com/content/view/433/161/ Angel Feather Loomer www.angelfeatherloomer.blogspot.com Check out my other ornaments at www.geocities.com/chucky5741/bcornament.html Lots of info and gifts at: www.cancerclub.com Chemo length of rounds question My question for all of you is this, is it alway 8 rounds no matter what type of chemo is decided upon? The reason I ask that is because I have seen here and on other boards, the number differs from what I appear to be slated for. My tumor had clear margins, as well as no node involvement, and the surgeon assured me that he was certain that all was removed. The path report was also quite clear on the margins being clear all the way around, and since I had such a rotten first time, it concerns me that perhaps this might be 'over doing' (there is a history of heart problems in my family, and one of the side effects of what I am getting is potential heart issues) THAT would suck after all of this too! Just wondering what some of you have experienced, is it always 8? Guest guest
Sue – My onc initially said I would be fine with 4 a/c treatments. He later changed it – since I was “doing so well” to add 2 more or the option of taking 4 Taxol treatments. Like you, my nodes were clear and I had clear margins. My surgeon didn’t even think the onc would recommend chemo. I’m also estrogen positive. It was the first time I’ve ever gone against a doctor’s recommendation, but I declined further chemo after the first 4. Sometimes I wonder if I did the right thing and only the future will show if I did. Currently I’m on a 5-year course of Arimidex. Guest guest
I was stage 111 so I had 8 treatments of Chemo every 3 weeks and about 33 weeks of Radiation and started on Tamoxifin December 2002 and then Arimidex Oct 2003 to present...have about 1 year and 4 months left. Guest guest
Sue, It's not always 8. I think the number of chemo treatments is determined by the size and type and grade of your tumor. My tumor was 1.3 centimeters and I'm getting 4 rounds of chemo a/c, no radiation, and then on to hormone therapy. --- Sue Michener wrote: > My question for all of you is this, is it alway 8 > rounds no matter > what type of chemo is decided upon? Guest guest
Hi, Sue - No, it isn't always 8. Starting in June 2005, I had 4 of Caelyx and cyclophosphamide over 3 months; then 4 of Taxol over 3 months; then 5 (double doses) of Navelbine with Neulasta, over 5 months. Took 11 months altogether. And that was all to shrink the lump from 10cm down to 2.75cm before surgery on May 8, 2006. Now I'm having radiotherapy - 20 treatments done, and only 5 to go - finishing this coming Friday, 11 August. And I'm taking Arimidex since the surgery, with no problems. It seems there as many different treatment schedules as there are cancer patients <G>. Shows that each one of us is special! Hugs, Margery. ============================================ margery@... in North Herts, UK ============================================ > Chemo length of rounds question > > My question for all of you is this, is it alway 8 rounds no matter > what type of chemo is decided upon? Guest guest
Betsy, you had 33 weeks of radiation! I'm only having 5 weeks - that's 25 doses, 5 days a week for 5 weeks. Did you have yours every day? Or once a week? You must have had loads more than me. My only side effects are a slight reddening of my skin, and a slight sleepiness (but that may be the travelling - an hour and a half each way to and from the Cancer Centre - or maybe our heatwave). How did you get on with your radiation? Guest guest
Hi, -Frances - My lump was strongly E+, weakly P+, and Her-. It seemed that the Caelyx, cyclophosphamide, and Taxol had a small effect, and the Navelbine made a big difference; but we weren't doing a lot of testing during the process so I'm not sure how much each drug did.
