Guest guest
Let me apologize in advance for the length of this - but this is really an important thing for those with burning and or itching that isn't yeast and doesn't respond to topical hormones. If you are a chemically sensitive person, almost all commercial products can cause you harm. I know because I am chemcially sensitive and I was allergy tested for my personal products and I patch test myself before I use a new product. I know you think that because your face is okay that "plain old Dove" won't hurt the rest of you. Please - do take a few moments and research all the products you use. Plain old Dove is what I was using when I got my Vulvar problems and I wouldn't use it again for any reason. I even take my soaps with me to vacation. Be mindful that whatever you use on your body and hair ends up in the genital area just by gravity -a s the water flows down your body from the shower - so does the chemicals you've used on your body and in your hair. Due to the contours of our body - this is also the WORST possible area to try and RINSE away residues. If you are washing your body and hair by tubbing instead of showering, then you sit in the residue. Hair should be washed when we get out of the tub, either in the sink or by leaning over the tub. Take a look at a few of the chemicals in your "plain old Dove". This is all chemicals in Dove Soap: Chemical CAS No / Unique ID Fragrance(s)/perfume(s) 000000-00-1 Stearic acid 000057-11-4 Tetrasodium EDTA 000064-02-8 2,6-Di-t-butyl-p-cresol (BHT) 000128-37-0 Sodium stearate 000822-16-2 Trisodium etidronate 002666-14-0 Sodium chloride 007647-14-5 Water 007732-18-5 Sodium tallowate 008052-48-0 Titanium dioxide 013463-67-7 Sodium dodecylbenzenesulfonate 025155-30-0 Coconut fatty acids 061788-47-4 Sodium cocoate 061789-31-9 Sodium cocoyl isethionate 061789-32-0 Cocoamidopropylbetaine 061789-40-0 Sodium palm kernelate 061789-89-7 Sodium alkylbenzenesulfonate 068411-30-3 We'll look up just ONE of the things contained in your product: Chemical Name: Sodium alkylbenzenesulfonate Whic is also found in: Brand Category Form Surf Ultra Concentrated Detergent Home inside liquid All with Color Safe Bleaching Action Home inside liquid Wisk Stain Dissolving Power 50 Fl. Oz. Home inside liquid Wisk Concentrated Laundry Detergent Home inside powder Wisk Ultra Concentrated Detergen t Home inside liquid Wisk Laundry Detergent, Dual Action Tablets Home inside tablet Dove Soap Bar with 1/4 Moisturizing Lotion Personal care/use solid Scary - that is is what you use for your body - this detergent used to clean inanimate, non living things which cannot react. THis is why we are asked (chemical sufferers) to rinse our clothes in rinse cycle several times. Now go to this site to just read about this product - what it is and what they know about it. Remember - this is only ONE of the 17 products in your "plain old Dove". http://www.pesticideinfo.org/Detail_Chemical.jsp?Rec_Id=PC37728 At this site, you can see that this single product is a "microbiocide (tranlates to antibiotic property), adjuvant ( an enhancer of the other ingredietns), Fungicide (antifungus/yeast) and INSECTICIDE. http://toxnet.nlm.nih.gov/cgi-bin/sis/search/f?./temp/~YQFMo4:3 Or, look at this product in the soap: 2,6-Di-t-butyl-p-cresol (BHT) which is a known causative agent of contact dermatitis or skin disorder/problems. For pretty alarming info on this product, look at: http://toxnet.nlm.nih.gov/cgi-bin/sis/search/r?dbs+hsdb:@term+@rn+128-37-0 and the MSDS on it: http://physchem.ox.ac.uk/MSDS/DI/2,6-di-t-butyl-p-cresol.html http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/entrez/query.fcgi?db=pubmed & cmd=Retrieve & dopt=AbstractPlus & list_uids=16930241 & query_hl=3 & itool=pubmed_docsum and yet it is allowed in daily used personal care products. These descriptions are just two of the products in your Dove. On the other hand, your Cetaphil is so listed with only 8 ingredientsCETAPHIL® Gentle Skin Cleanser is a non-drying cleanser for acne patients using drying topical medications. Its lubricating and moisturizing action also relieves the dryness and itching associated with xerosis and photoaged skin. INGREDIENTS: Water, Cetyl Alcohol, Propylene Glycol, Sodium Lauryl Sulfate, Stearyl Alcohol, Methylparaben, Propylparaben, Butylparaben. Or you could opt for a Goats milk soap which is quickly becoming my personal favorite - and here in one site which has ingredietns listed as Handmade Soap - Goat Milk Handmade Soap Welcome to Alabu handmade soap - Home of 100% goat milk soap. All of our handmade soap is 100% goat milk soap, cold processed, promoting a high standard of quality for each bar of soap. Alabu handmade soap is made with fresh goat milk (no water, no powdered milk), food grade olive, coconut, soybean and castor oils, cocoa butter and sodium hydroxide. http://www.alabu.com/ The lack of chemicals is the important thing. Goats soap or olive oil soap or something natural without all those chemicals is what will save your skin. I hope you find something useful here - because as I said I am a chemical sensitive and it wasn't until I stopped using "plain old Dove" or "plain old Caress" and such that I began to notice a difference. If you already have to use Cetaphil for your back =then you already have skin which is sensitive to chemicals and perfumes - and that's what it's critical to eliminate. You need the most natural form of personal care products you can find. You can google Chemical free soaps or Chemical Free shampoos etc. etc. etc. I cannot tell you what a difference getting rid of those daily care products laden with chemicals made in my vulvar skin and the rest of me. Again, I'm sorry this is so long. The onlymoisturizer I can use is Cetaphyl and I use it allover. Aveda's customized shampoos work for me as well.I've also stopped using hairspray and other hairproducts completely. SNIP SNIP SNIP .. Guest guest
Hi Dusty, No worries about the long post, I'm thankful that you want to help me out You make a good point and I was shocked to see all of that stuff in my Dove. I am going out to my health & nutrition store tomorrow, so I will be sure to print your message off and go pick up some Goats Milk and Olive Oil soap to see which I like better. As for the Cetaphyl, I don't have to use it, I just grabbed that brand becuase it's supposedly fragrance-free and was recommended by my dermatologist a few years back. Not too sure what I should use then. I need a moisturizer at least for my face since my skin has a tendancy to get dry. Any suggestions? I learned a while ago that it's best if I shower my body first (with my hair tied up so it doesn't get wet) and then stepping out of the shower and washing my hair in the sink. That really helped me a lot and I agree with you that more women should do the same. Thanks again for the info Dusty, I really appreciate it. You've given me more answers and ideas that any of my doctors have! So thanks again - --- Dusty wrote: > Let me apologize in advance for the length of this - > but this is really an > important thing for those with burning and or > itching that isn't yeast and > doesn't respond to topical hormones. > > If you are a chemically sensitive person, almost all > commercial products can > cause you harm. Guest guest
Thanks again Dusty! I bought both Goats Milk & Olive Oil soap (and was sure to read all the labels and grilled the store owner about the stuff ) So far I REALLY love the Goats milk, and already I feel a change in my vulvar skin (yay!) I noticed after I would wash with Dove that the skin would feel really " tight " and dry which sometimes caused what felt like " chafing " when I would walk for long periods of time. But that hasn't happened once since I switched to the goats milk. It's great stuff. I like the idea of using the coconut oil as a light moisturizer. I will be picking some up this week (and will make absolutely sure it's 100% with no other additives) Thanks again for all the info, I really appreciate it - --- Dusty wrote: > i DON'T BUY ANYTHING WITHOUT READING LABLES FIRST. > i DO HAVE THE ADVANTAGE > OF KNOWING FOR SURE (AFTTER ALLERGY TESTING) SOME OF > THE ITEMS I AM ALLERGIC > TO AND I CARRY A LIST OF THOSE IN MY PURSE. > > I DON'T REALLY USE 'MOISTURIZER' - BUT I WOULD THINK > THAT THE HEALTH FOOD > STORE WOULD BE A GOOD PLACE TO START - OR GOOGLING > ON THE NET SOMETHING LIKE > > CHEMICAL FREE/FRAGRANCE FREE MOISTURIZER. > > WHEN MY SKIN IS DRY, I USE MY TRUSTY 100% COCONUT > OIL BY SPECTRUM - > ABSOLUTELY NO OTHER ADDITIVES IN IT.
