Yes, the gags were awful, and I was annoyed at people who laughed at them in the movie. > But, Gwinneth did a great job portraying the feelings of the big girl who never gets a date. I felt so sorry for her- and yet, I knew as I watched it, that was ME. It was really heartbreaking. The funny thing is, I STILL feel like that girl, even though I no longer weigh 330 pounds. > Anyone else feel like me??? > Connie K Connie, I felt exactly the same way!!! I *had* to see this movie, and I was surprisingly pleased. I soooo identified with Gwynneth Paltrow---she REALLY captured the essence of how a fat chick feels when a guy seems to be hitting on her or complements her. I was so impressed by her acting--you just think there is no way a naturally skinny chick could ever really understand how we feel and be able to portray that, you know? Sure there are some too-easy fat jokes, but they are pretty minimal, at least I thought so. I really recommend it. And I was really offended when I saw the previews months ago. Guest guest
******I was so impressed by her acting--you just think there is no way a naturally skinny chick could ever really understand how we feel and be able to portray that, ******* Fairfax Sharon, I saw an interview with Gwynneth Paltrow just after the movie was released and her comments were very interesting. She said that after all the make up and prosthetics application it took to turn her into a MO person she had to walk down some stairs into the lobby of the hotel she was staying at. She was SHOCKED at peoples reactions to her. She said people wouldn't look her in the eye, that they went out of their way to avoid her and wouldn't talk to her. She was flabbergasted! She said she had NEVER been treated like that and felt it was HORRIBLE of them to treat her that way just because they PERCEIVED her to be FAT! I believe she was genuinely very distressed by this. I am just NOT sure if I can go see this movie. I really HATE it when they make fun of MO people. Do you think Hollywood would put out a movie like this and have Gwynith portrayed as having say, horrible scarring acne? Curvature of the spine, an artificial leg, blindness, a cleft palate, anorexia, severe burns? Why is Hollywood allowed to make fun of overweight people and not any other type of handicap? I can guarantee you that if she were to play a role with any of these other handicaps, that movie would never see the light of day. Someone please tell me the difference. Guest guest
Hi all, My girlfriend and I did go see the movie. So, this is my 2 cents on it. First off, I did laugh at the gags in the movie. I was actually rolling in the aisles. Ok, you say well that wasn't very sensitive of me, was it? This movie is a romance movie IMHO. This guy that thinks he is " gods gift to women " can't get a date and he only wants to date the model type of woman. Well, Tony Robbins convinces him to see the " inner beauty " instead of the outer shell. Hal sees the inner beauty of everybody, he also see the inner ugliness of other women, basically the " gods gift to men " type. I found that this movie protrays what most people never see, that there is a beautiful person inside all of us. I give it a thumbs up for its boldness at trying to show the " normal " people that we are people, too!!!!!!! Rick > *****Im with ya there. I dont think it is funny at all. I can see myself > getting really ticked while trying to watch that one. ******* > > I can not watch any of the Eddy movies like the Absent Minded > Professor etc because I get so INCENSED!!!!! I end up just so angry that my > darling spends more time calming me down then watching the movie. Guest guest
actually, I think the movie is making fun of shallow people. Sure they picked MO people to make a point but sounds like the movie also tries to reflect some feelings of Gwyneth with MO experiences. It's Shallow Hal that comes off looking like the idiot. I prefer to think that's the message here. --- ICrikettI@... wrote: > In a message dated 11/20/01 6:25:20 PM Central > Standard Time, > ldybostons@... writes: > > > > I am just NOT sure if I can go see this movie.
