Guest guest
Judy What an ordeal! Amazing that what is a " simple " procedure in most people become huge in us. I am sorry that this is so difficult. I can only imagine how powerless you must have felt with Bob ending up with a heart attack on top of all your stuff. I know when got sick 3 years ago and had to have his open heart surgery, I was a basketcase. Of course, that all happened the week I was put back on Prednisone because of this relapse. Ugh! Know that you are in prayers and thoughts. Tracie
Guest guest
Judy, honey we are so glad you are back.. and that you are at least you have come home. Sorry to hear you had such a horrible time.. of it and now with your hubby, sometime life just doesn't seem fair.. and seems this way in your case, but we are certainly sending you all the love and support that we can possible muster and blowing them your way... You take care of yourself and if we can do anything to help you, Please just ask... Love and Hugs, -- I " m back, we need prayers I have just returned from the hospital, had my total knee on 2/18/04. Turns out that my tibia had not healed from the fracture. The non healing caused my knee to implode and crush. Dr. Surgeon had to put in a special prosthesis that goes half way down my leg. They also did bone grafting. I went to a rehab for two weeks, I was allowed to do partial weight bearing and strengthening exercises My knee continued to bleed for two weeks, saw the surgeon, who promptly ordered lots of blood work and then took me back to the OR on a friday night two weeks ago. My Hemoglobin was 7.5, I had to have 4 units of blood. Turns out the wound was infected with gram positive staf. I am now on IV Vancomycin for six weeks. I am praying that this does the trick if not it will be back to the OR to put in an antibiotic spacer. About 5 days ago I called my husband at work, he didn't sould right, he also said he had pain in his sternum. He is 63 and pretty healthy. I told him to have someone take his to the ER. One of his co-workers drove hime. They did the usual cardiac workup, and yes he did have a heart attack. The did a cardiac cath and one side vessal in the circ was collapsed and occluded by a clot. They werre able to remove the clot and put in stint. They also found that he has several places in his major vessals that are 50 to 60% occlusions. Those will be delt with at a later time. I am so overwhelmed, I have been experiencing pressure in my chest, I am using a walker which puts lots of strain on my arms and chest. My doctor gave me ativan, 1gm tablets, The really don't help much so I stopped taking them, He also increased my zoloft to 150mg. My best friend lives in California.Their only income is doing taxes in the tax season. I so wish she could be here to help me through this but it is out of the question. We do talk on the phone as often as we can, which really helps me. I see the ortho surgeon this monday, hopefully I can walk on the operative leg then and also drive. We are really stuck here in the woods. They say Bob has small to moderate heart damage. I am trying to concentrate on the fact that he survived and that we have each other. Thank goodness that he is pretty calm by nature.. I have not read the posts that I received while I was in the hospital having problems concentrating. It is so good to know that my fellow members of this group understand and are so caring. Thanks for being there, sorry for the long rambling post. Guest guest
Judy, you and your entire will be added to my prayer list, I know that it is difficult to deal with this illness on its own much less with having other things on top of it and we worry big time when we have someone in our family ill too. Take care and I will be thinking of you. Your friend in Texas, Jeanna -- Re: I " m back, we need prayers Judy What an ordeal! Guest guest
Judy, I am so sorry about how things went for you, it seems as if we can't have anything done without this old disease poking its ugly old head out. I had a similar thing happen to me in 1995 but it was on my neck, I got gangrene, and a staph infection on top of the fusion not taking in the front because of the steroids. What would have been a somewhat simple procedure turned out to be a nightmare with a torn esophagus. paralyzed vocal chord, an extra surgery in the back of my neck to repair what had been done in the front and two months hospital stay one in regular hospital, one in rehab hospital. I will be praying for you always. your friend in Texas, Jeanna -- I " m back, we need prayers I have just returned from the hospital, had my total knee on 2/18/04.
