Guest guest
Hi Ellen and welcome. I had CMF for 6 mo. I was Stage II with one bad node. That was back in 1990. I did have problems with some foods. I didn't like most meats and had a metal taste in my mouth all the time. I could eat/drink dairy products and the only food that tasted good was spaghetti and pizza. I will keep you in my prayers. Hello to everyone and congrat's to all for your continued breat cancer battles. My name is Ellen (48 yrs old) and I was diagnosed with a stage 3, invasive breast cancer the beginning of March of this year. I had surgery in April, clean margins, no lymph node involvement but my tumor was " poorly differentiated " which meant that they recommended chemo (which I just finished 3 weeks ago) and 33 radiation treatments, (which I just began on Monday). So, I'm half way through the intial process and so glad to be done with chemo. I did read a few posts and saw the one about the Dr. saying that Adrio and Cytoxin should not cause side effects. I'd like to recommend to that Dr. that they try 4 doses of that drug and see what happens!! How awful - I hope that you have changed physicians, for your sake. I did have nausea, but they added more anti-nausea drugs as I went through the process, making it livable. I did lose about 25 pounds over the course of the two months I had chemo but imagine that I will start to gain that back at some point. Has anyone else had taste changes?? Like, I cannot eat anything too cold or too hot, can't stand the taste of chicken (which I loved) and carbonated drinks. Several people have told me that their taste buds return to normal, but I'd love to hear your experiences on this issue. Also, my Dr. did not suggest Taxol as a part of my treatment and although I plan to ask her about it next Tuesday, I'm wondering if anyone has had experience with this drug in combination with Adriomycin/Cytoxin. Well, I'm off to drive the kids to go bowling for a while and then, maybe a nap......... I hope. I'm glad that I have found this venue to talk, share, vent and maybe provide some insite to someone who is just beginning and get help from the many who have survived this journey. Thanks for listening and I look forward to participating. Ellen, Massachusetts
Guest guest
Hi Ellen, I am in Massachusetts too! Near Boston. It's common for the taste buds to change during chemo. Processed sugar was one of the things that didn't taste good, so I didn't want any candy or desserts. About 3-4 weeks after my last chemo my taste buds started to return to normal and I regained the weight I lost during chemo and packed on a couple of more pounds :-) I had Adriamycin and Cytoxan, and am now on Herceptin. take care, and welcome to the group,
Guest guest
Hi Ellen – I lost the taste buds on the top of my tongue. I couldn’t taste a thing until the food got to the sides of my mouth. :-) Took about 4 weeks after the chemo, but my buds are now about normal. New to the Group!
