Guest guest
Is your daughter going to be put out for the injections? My is going to get Botox as soon as the insurance approves it and he's being put under concious sedation. When got the shots in his back he screamed bloody murder! I don't want to freak you out or anything, just making you aware. As for the side affects, didn't have any. It didn't work either. But I guess it doesn't work good for the back. Good luck... Guest guest
My son had the botox shots for his feet pulling in and arching. The shots were given to the calf muscles and achilles tendon on one side. The doctor put on a numbing cream under a clear bandage. We waited for 1/2 for the cream to work. When she was giving the shots she had 's leg attached to an electric muscle stimulator (she said it was to make sure that they shot the correct muscle) He did not complain of any pain but did not like the feeling of his muscles moving without his direction. He did object severly to the casts that were required after the shots. They said one week on. What they meant was that cast was one week and the next one with a little different position was one week etc. He ended up having three weeks of casting and cried morning and night about it. That said the shots themselves were great! His feet were no longer purple and cold. They straightened out beautifully and we have not had to repeat the shots yet even though we had them done last year. 's is complex IV and surf1 but only leigh-like since he doesn't have the brain lesions. Good Luck! Guest guest
Twana The cream that you are speaking of is called Emala Cream ( not sure if I'm spelling it right.) My daughter has had it too, to do numbing before getting poked for blood drawing from the bend of an arm or the back side of the hand. It does have to sit for 1/2 hour or so, like you said. They used a clear bandage (tegaderm--I think) to cover it, to help keep it in place. I wish it was a routine used everywhere, our kids need every little break, with all that they endure. :-) Re: Botox Shots > My son had the botox shots for his feet pulling in and arching. > The shots were given to the calf muscles and achilles tendon on one > side. > The doctor put on a numbing cream under a clear bandage. Guest guest
Something that works better than Emala Cream and doesn't take as long to take effect is adult strength oral jel - works great! - ddgraham@... Guest guest
Hi, My son has been getting Botox Injections for about a year and a half. The injections are to help with the spasticity in his legs and also spasms in his legs. He gets them about every 4 months at Shriner's Hospital in Portland, Oregon. Our experience has been positive. has a very high tolerance for pain so he has not needed any numbing or other medication to get through the injections. I know most of the children that do receive these at Shriners are given medication to put them to sleep and relax them. I hope all goes well, I will keep you in my prayers!
