Guest guest
Jodi, Can't remember where I picked this up, but folic acid is good for gout. Many times, those of us with gut issues don't absorb folate from our food, and this can be a problem. (Same thing with B12, but the fact that you're no longer anemic seems to indicate THAT may be picking up for you!) Let's see... you're not doing much in the way of fruit, are you? Otherwise, look into the Knudsen Just Juice line. I know they have Tart Cherry and Bing Cherry. Can't remember Black Cherry. However, since you have the Omega, you could easily juice your own organic cherries. Note: strawberries also appear to be beneficial. For capsules of cherry extract, CHeck Now Foods; I think theirs is legal. Celery juice might work, although I'd be cautious with amounts. I'm wary of seed-based infusions or decoctions because there's too much probability of polysaccharides from the seed coats. If sea salt makes it flare, it may be electrolyte imbalance. You might need a bit more potassium and magnesium to go with it. — Marilyn New Orleans, Louisiana, USA Undiagnosed IBS since 1976, SCD since 2001 Darn Good SCD Cook No Human Children Shadow & Sunny Longhair Dachshund

Guest guest
Hi Marilyn, > Can't remember where I picked this up, but folic > acid is good for gout. Many times, those of us > with gut issues don't absorb folate from our > food, and this can be a problem. (Same thing with > B12, but the fact that you're no longer anemic > seems to indicate THAT may be picking up for you!) I remember you telling me about high doses of folic acid during an attack. Supplement are not my friend really. I am trying to find a legal folinic acid as maybe that will be more tolerable? I am baffled by this Gout stuff. I am not overweight. I wonder if it is attributed to weight fluctuation over the years flares loosing weight and Prednisone making me gain. I am unsure. > Let's see... you're not doing much in the way of > fruit, are you? Otherwise, look into the Knudsen > Just Juice line. I know they have Tart Cherry and > Bing Cherry. For > capsules of cherry extract, CHeck Now Foods; I think theirs is legal. No, I do not eat too much fruit. I have some kind of diluted citrus juice in the morning. I also eat cooked apples every other day and about 2 times a week I have home-made pineapple juice which I strain and dilute. The Bromelain is supposed to be good for healing and also my back trouble that I had from the botched B12 shot. Seth over at HC was explaining to me the difference between a concentrate and an extract and a concentrate would be way too much sugars for his gut to handle. I thought of cooking a bunch of cherries down. I did not think of making just plain juice that I dilute- do you think it will still be beneficial since I need to dilute? Also, do you think it is ok to use frozen cherries since it is hard finding fresh ones now. I seem to of been sensitive in the past to frozen fruits/veggies. I have not tried any of that stuff. I will check NOW FOODS and I will try strawberry juice as I can find fresh strawberries. > Celery juice might work, although I'd be cautious with amounts. > > I'm wary of seed-based infusions or decoctions > because there's too much probability of polysaccharides from the seed coats. Ohhh.. Ok, thank you for the explanation. > If sea salt makes it flare, it may be electrolyte > imbalance. You might need a bit more potassium and magnesium to go with it. Good idea, I will tinker with this. Do you know of a good website that tells us which food sources are best to get vitamins/minerals from? I think this Gout thing puts a roadblock up for me with the diet. No copious amounts of organ meats for me! I was eating liver pate for the Iron and OMG couldn't put my sock on!!
