Guest guest
Yes, Sandy, I had horrible constipation on the AC. I just THOUGHT I had experienced constipation before! I used Aloe pills by mouth to help but the best thing that kept me normal was this product called COLON CLEANSE that you can get at GNC or even at Wal Mart. The stool softeners and the fiber pills won't hurt but they just were not enough by themselves. Also eat prunes or drink prune juice. The constipation was one of the worst parts about the AC which the nurses really never prepared me for! Blessings,
Guest guest
Hi, - The constipation from chemo is soooo painful! I had my best results from a laxative syrup called lactulose, which I could buy over the counter at a pharmacist's shop. See http://www.nlm.nih.gov/medlineplus/druginfo/medmaster/a682338.html for a description. It works really gently (no sudden rush to the loo) but it works. I also had dioctyl, a faecal softener - see http://www.netdoctor.co.uk/medicines/100000798.html - and I took both for a while to let my sore place heal up. Hope this helps, Margery. > a few chemo side effect questions > > hey all, > I just had my 3rd a/c treatment last Friday. My onc. said that this > one will be the toughest one. Guest guest
I can identify…natural things work best for me – although they do cause me to be crampy, they still do the trick. I drink Prune Juice and/or Apricot Juice and things “work out” within a few hours. a few chemo side effect questions hey all, I just had my 3rd a/c treatment last Friday. My onc. said that this one will be the toughest one. I have one more on August 11. The question that I have is, has anyone experienced extreme constipation? I've tried Senna, colace, and lots of water. Last night I had the sit of my life. I got real sweaty and weak. I had to go to the basement just to cool off and calm down. My stomach gets upset when I get to this point. I drink alot of liquids, but then I get to a point where I think I'm going to throw some of them up, so I " m afraid to over do. frustrating! Guest guest
I find stewed prunes, about 10, in the evening will produce the desired result, without cramping, the next day. Guest guest
I had big time constipation with a/c...I think it was pericolace that worked. Tell the oncologist or nurse the problem you are having. I am sure they will offer a suggestion that will work. Take good care. Winter wrote: hey all, I just had my 3rd a/c treatment last Friday. Guest guest
Sandy, Hi! I had exactly the same reaction after my third A/C treatment. Honestly, that was the worst side effect of them all. It started for me on a Friday (of course) with nobody around for the weekend. I finally called the Onc. on call who said to drink prune juice, eat bran flakes. I also took senna, colace and they also suggested Maalox. It took a couple of days, but finally the combination of all of those things worked. I wish that someone had told me HOW IMPORTANT it is to get ahead of it, in other words, take the colace and senna regularly and eat the fiberous foods, BEFORE the constipation began. For my last A/C, I stayed ahead of it and had a much better experience. Good luck with your last one! I finished my last 4 weeks ago and am on #14 of my #33 radiation treatments. It get's better hon. Keep the faith. Ellen > > hey all, > I just had my 3rd a/c treatment last Friday. My onc. said that this > one will be the toughest one.
