Guest guest
Wendi, I gained weight suddenly on the T3 protocol, in the 3rd week after 1 week T3 only. It has risen more since then, too. I may have gained a bit more after I started HC at the 12 1/2 week mark. I'm now starting to feel better at 5 months out, but the weight and edema hasn't budged yet. This happened to me on the new Armour, then improved on NT but was the very last symptom to improve. So I'm trying to be patient for a while longer as I am still tweaking things and don't yet have optimum temps. Not to discourage you--but you aren't alone. Sherry > > I am 2 wks into the Cytomel only treatment and I am now at 50mcg (increasing about 10 mcg per week)split 5 times a day. I don't feel any worse or better......I made the mistake of standing on my scale this morning and my 140lb muscular frame has disappeared to a 160lb blob. I eat very low carb so I guess none of this is going to go away until the resistance clears. > > My adrenals are finally supported with Isocort - Temps seem stable > My Ferritin is 84 (full iron panel was done) and Potassium and Sodium are all ok. > > So am I just dealing with a waiting game? Guest guest
Hi Kitty, Thank you for your reply, but I am so terribly confused now! So what you are saying is that before, my T3 was pooling in my blood, now it is being used and basically my thyroid is not able to keep the production high enough now to keep up with my T3 needs? Causing my TSH to go up? i.e. meaning I may have to be on T3 all my life now?! How does all this fit in with RT3?! I didn't think I was hypothyroid as such, just that I had high RT3 (possibly due to my extreme yo-yo dieting in the past 5 years!). So I was just hoping to go on T3 for 4 months or so to clear the receptors and come off of it. Could I really actually be hypothyroid now though?Or could this still be an RT3 issue that could possibly be resolved? Thanks again! > > > > From what I have heard, yes this is a bit of a waiting game. Guest guest
Low cortisol and low ferritin cause the T3 to pool in your blood, yes. Now that you are supporting the adrenals your body is using up the T3 so that you need more so T3 will go down on tests and TSH will go up. As for being on thyroid meds forever... not sure if the thyroid can 'heal' like adrenals can. Do you have Hashi's? Depending on how long your thyroid was compromised is the amount of time it would take to heal I guess, I don't have a thyroid anymore so haven't really looked into that aspect of it! If you have Hashi's and it went a long time without treatment than the thyroid would be damaged permanently to some extent. Hope that helps a bit! Guest guest
Hi Kitty, Yes, that does help, thanks! Yes, I have hashi's, but antibodies below the limits. But I was wondering - could it be possible to have a perfectly functioning thyroid, but just too much RT3 due to low cortisol/low ferritin or whatever? Or does it mean that if you have high RT3, your thyroid gland is definitely not functioning well? > > > > > > From what I have heard, yes this is a bit of a waiting game. Guest guest
Have you read the RT3 faq site? I don't have it with me right now, am at work... From my understanding the RT3 is your body trying to down regulate metabolism due to factors like low cortisol and low ferritin. It doesn't want the T3 so instead of converting T4 to T3 it converts it to RT3 to block the usage of T3. I hope that makes sense... I am still new to the whole thing! I would assume over time if the thyroid gets better and the adrenal/ferritin issue is resolved then you wouldn't need any thyroid hormones. Though I think that once you have Hashi's you have to stay on the hormones to keep the Hashi antibodies suppressed. kitty To: RT3_T3 Sent: Mon, April 5, 2010 1:18:34 PMSubject: Re: Anything to help speed up resistance clearing? Guest guest
Hang in there everyone!! I say that to myself too. Although I feel crappy I am still able to do some hiking for my job -I am a forester but some days I just don't have it in me....Office days can be worse because it is hard to concentrate! I am only into week 2.5 but I am getting worried about going too high on my T3 and having a terrible reaction when the resistance clears.... How high is too high? I am going to 55 mcg of Cytomel tommorrow. I will slow down my upward trend if I must......More doesn't seem to make me feel better It just keeps me functioning if I can call it that! Thanks for the experiences everyone . . it is nice to have company even though I wish you weren't here! Wendi > > > > > > From what I have heard, yes this is a bit of a waiting game. Guest guest
Hi Wendi The reaction is not that bad. My sister had her clearance 2 days before 12 weeks. I rang her ona Monday and asked her how she was feeling and she said that she had been feeling hot all weekend. I said have you checked your pulse and she had not. My sister is a bit dumb when it comes to these things. Anyway her pulse was 110 at 4 in the afternoon. So I told her not to take any t3 for the rest of the day. Start with a low dose next day. I think she was hyper for 3 days before she realised what had happened she lost 3 kgs. Me I went hyper 2 days later with a pulse of a hundred when I woke up. We were both taking 100 mcg of t3 at the time. As Val said she went up to 250. My dad is on 200. Your only in the very early days. Your body would still be making some t3. Although I feel crappy I am still able to do some hiking for my job -I am a forester but some days I just don't have it in me....Office days can be worse because it is hard to concentrate!I am only into week 2.5 but I am getting worried about going too high on my T3 and having a terrible reaction when the resistance clears.... How high is too high? I am going to 55 mcg of Cytomel tommorrow. I will slow down my upward trend if I must......More doesn't seem to make me feel better It just keeps me functioning if I can call it that! Thanks for the experiences everyone . . it is nice to have company even though I wish you weren't here!Wendi> > >> > > From what I have heard, yes this is a bit of a waiting game. I don't feel any worse or better...... I made the mistake of standing on my scale this morning and my 140lb muscular frame has disappeared to a 160lb blob. I eat very low carb so I guess none of this is going to go away until the resistance clears.> > > > > > My adrenals are finally supported with Isocort - Temps seem stable> > > My Ferritin is 84 (full iron panel was done) and Potassium and Sodium are all ok. > > > > > > So am I just dealing with a waiting game?
