Guest guest
From what I have heard, yes this is a bit of a waiting game. I have gained 10lb so far since starting HC 1 1/2 months ago but went majorly hypothyroid since starting the HC. I have also just started the protocal for RT3 so can't give you any feedback from personal experience yet... Once you become optimized on the thyroid meds and your RT3 clears you should loose the weight without any trouble. Maybe you are on to much Isocort? Are you supplementing potassium/sodium? kitty To: RT3_T3 Sent: Sat, April 3, 2010 6:11:23 PMSubject: Anything to help speed up resistance clearing? I am 2 wks into the Cytomel only treatment and I am now at 50mcg (increasing about 10 mcg per week)split 5 times a day. I don't feel any worse or better...... I made the mistake of standing on my scale this morning and my 140lb muscular frame has disappeared to a 160lb blob. I eat very low carb so I guess none of this is going to go away until the resistance clears. My adrenals are finally supported with Isocort - Temps seem stableMy Ferritin is 84 (full iron panel was done) and Potassium and Sodium are all ok. So am I just dealing with a waiting game? Just looking for a little support. ThanksWendi
Guest guest
How would I know if I am on too much Isocort? Temps are pretty stable and not high. I am not supplementing with potassium or sodium because both were well in range. I had a phone conversation with Val and she helped me dose my Isocort but kind of curious how I would know I was on too much? Maybe you and I should do a brief journal of our experiences to share when we are through this. Maybe we can have it posted on the Files I sure wish someone had already done it so I could read others experiences....It might help me with this lost feeling of wondering if I am going the right direction Thanks for the reply Wendi > > From what I have heard, yes this is a bit of a waiting game. Guest guest
To much would be http://faqhelp.webs.com/hchydrocortisone.htm same as to much cortisol. Where is your weight gain? I should do a journal... my story is really long and ridiculous! Maybe one day I will sit down and write it out. There is a place to post things like that on the main group page. How are you feeling lost? Kitty To: RT3_T3 Sent: Sat, April 3, 2010 6:23:26 PMSubject: Re: Anything to help speed up resistance clearing? How would I know if I am on too much Isocort? Guest guest
Thanks for the link.....nope don't have any of those symptoms for too much cortisol. In fact one of the main reasons I think the adrenals are doing better (as good as they can with the resistance) is I used to not produce any stomach acid. I would have to take 25 Betaine HCL acid to digest my meals now I am down to 3-6 so something has definately shifted. I guess I feel lost because I haven't felt like myself in so long and every doctor I have met can't figure it out! The one I have now is ok but still I am telling her what is wrong and what to prescribe. Maybe I should start charging her I am just being impatient but 12 weeks seems like forever but I will make it I have to. My weight gain is around my middle, thighs and butt. I still have alot of back pain and ligament instability and without the use of an SI belt I couldn't do anything. This too shall pass.......that will be my new motto Wendi > > > > From what I have heard, yes this is a bit of a waiting game. Guest guest
That type of weight gain with the ligament issues sounds hypothyroid to me. After I had my thyroid out and was on synthroid my legs hurt SO BAD! Hurt to walk when I used to love to run! That is where I have gained weight as well, along with my jaw line. yuck! Hopefully both of us will feel better soon! It shall pass but it will always feel like forever... I have way to much stomach acid... always feel like my mouth is on fire... I tried taking betaine... wow what a bad idea! Hurt to breath with that stuff :X Kitty To: RT3_T3 Sent: Sat, April 3, 2010 11:15:30 PMSubject: Re: Anything to help speed up resistance clearing? Guest guest
I hear you....and I have about 100+ lbs to lose, so adding another 10 lbs just kills me. Very depressing to have my pants tight when I have struggled for so many years with my weight. I was praying I wouldn't gain any weight on the HC. Now my ferritin dropped to 47, so I feel like I am at a total stand still because of that. Guest guest
I hear you....and I have about 100+ lbs to lose, so adding another 10 lbs just kills me. Very depressing to have my pants tight when I have struggled for so many years with my weight. I was praying I wouldn't gain any weight on the HC. Guest guest
Hopefully you are just going more hypothyroid like me for a bit. I was close to underweight when I started the HC so I really can't complain but I really didn't want to have to start worrying about gaining weight either Everyone is saying that once the thyroid meds get optimized the weight comes back off. I will hope it is correct for both of us! Maybe you are retaining fluids? How are you sodium/potassium levels? Guest guest
Hey everyone I have gained weight too from the HC. Bummer. I feel like the florinef is just as bad-could it be true? I hate to say, but in my long experience with cytomel, it is more the HC that is the culprit rather than not being on enough T3, at least in my own case. I feel that in my case I won't be able to lose the weight until I am down on the HC a bit. Its really frustrating because I know I can't go too fast, and I already feel kind of weak again on the reduced HC, although the florinef helps. Your RT3 will clear, don't worry... Its all a balancing act... Liz > > > > > > From what I have heard, yes this is a bit of a waiting game. Guest guest
I have a feeling you are right Liz....that once we can reduce the HC, we will start losing weight along with our thyroid being more balanced. I am overweight to begin with, so gaining another 10 lbs is so depressing. I have struggled with my weight for my whole life, but I did lose and get down to 135 lbs about 16 years ago. And then gaining it despite exercising, etc...but I sam at y heaviest now and it's awful. I feel even more huge since taking the HC. My RT3 was 18.2 so not too bad. But now I am waiting for my FT3 test since they didn't put it on the lab. The nurse called and the lab was adding it on and will have that result to me in a few days. My FT4 is lower .8 and that is the very lowest part of the range. Then my RT3 number was lower. Was like 270 and now it's 212. I am NOT on any thyroid meds yet since my ferritin went down (was 71 and now 47.7). So waiting on FT3 to see if my RT3 ratio changed. Guest guest
Hi Kitty, I am kind of in the same boat as you - I have gained 12 pounds in the last 2 months on isocort (my weight was stable for the first 2 months when I was on 3-2-2-1, but seemed to have shot up since I increased to a 5-3-2-1 dose..and I am NOT eating more!). I was just wondering - you say that starting HC made you more hypothyroid - why would this be? My Free T3 has also decreased, and my TSH increased since hitting the 5-3-2-1 dose(seem to be building up more RT3 from the isocort?). Thanks! > > From what I have heard, yes this is a bit of a waiting game. Guest guest
Cortisol allows your body to use the T3 instead of it just pooling in the blood unused meaning you need more T3. That is why the T3 would go down and your TSH would go up, your body needs more thyroid hormones. Guest guest
Hi terri It sounds like you are having a touch time, too. I feel pretty bloated on this stuff. Are you sure you can't start the T3 on 47.7 ferritin? I might be wrong, but I think that might be high enough to give it a shot, even though it is not an ideal number. Mine was lower than that last time I checked and I am on T3 now. Maybe I should wait though! I feel tethered to the HC now. I just got a cold so I had to up the dosage again, which I hate. I want to go down but my body still feels weak. I hate the weight gain and cellulite, though. It is so hard to figure it all out. I hope you can get on the T3 soon. I don't feel any worse or better...... I made the mistake of standing on my scale this morning and my 140lb muscular frame has disappeared to a 160lb blob. I eat very low carb so I guess none of this is going to go away until the resistance clears. > > > > > > > > My adrenals are finally supported with Isocort - Temps seem stable > > > > My Ferritin is 84 (full iron panel was done) and Potassium and Sodium are all ok. > > > > > > > > So am I just dealing with a waiting game?
Guest guest
Wendi, I gained weight suddenly on the T3 protocol, in the 3rd week after 1 week T3 only. It has risen more since then, too. I may have gained a bit more after I started HC at the 12 1/2 week mark. I'm now starting to feel better at 5 months out, but the weight and edema hasn't budged yet. This happened to me on the new Armour, then improved on NT but was the very last symptom to improve. So I'm trying to be patient for a while longer as I am still tweaking things and don't yet have optimum temps. Not to discourage you--but you aren't alone.
