It's been 3 weeks today that I've had them since my 5 month remission. They're driving me crazy. I've stumped the head allergist at Cedars and continue to take my meds and continue to have no relief. My Dr. increased my Doxipin at night to 50 mg (still taking Allegra 180 + 60 mg 3xday, Singular at night, and Zantac at night), and prescribed Protopic lotion (that doesn't seem to work). The only relief I had was from the Cortisone shot I had last Friday, that kept the hives away for one day. I've also freed my diet off all histamine and yeast thriving foods. That hasn't seemed to help yet either. Started doing yoga again AND that too hasn't silenced the hives. A couple questions for you all... 1. Has anyone considered going to one of those Body "detox" places (where you drink only wheatgrass and completely clean out your system of all toxins)? 2. Did anyone in the group have their hives start after another surgery besides root canal or wisdom teeth? I had a dermoid tumor removed from my ovary two weeks before my hives started; my Dr's don't think there is a connection, and as far as I can tell I've recovered from the surgery fine, so don't think there is an infection. Do you have gastro trouble as well? Is your hiving better or worse at any particular time? I do not know of anyone that has used the detox and I caution you to do so. But... I still do have hives when I'm not adding any hormones and have my period. Who knows?? I don't have any gastro trouble. I know some members think this drug is worthless, but at least it works for me. I forgot to take it yesterday and woke up with some hives on my hands, but they went away quickly, YEAH.. But, I guess I am not rid of the darn things after all. I keep up on the posts the best I can and butt in when I think I can offer something to the group. I hope if my (future) children face anything like your girls, I can model my behavior after you ...You are a great example to all of us. Please take care, everyone. I will be changing from graveyards to day shift for two weeks this month to cover a co workers holidays. It will be quite a shock to my system and solar urticaria. I also have started recently seen an Oriental medicine guru, he has me on a herblal concoction that smells and tastes like something I shouldn't really discribe on here. He feels strongly that my kidneys are suffering greatly from my condition by continually battling with my own body, funny the naturopath said much the same thing. After 13 years of western docs saying I'm sorry we can't help you, just keep doing what your doing I'm willing to try anything. Ty, I had a peek at your new baby too. He's adorable. Guest guest Posted December 7, 2001 Report Share Posted December 7, 2001 , The way the naturopath explained it to me is the constant uva and uvb rays, ( I have solar Urticaria) that are immpossible to dodge are sending the histamines through my system at a none stop rate. My kidneys are constantly working over time to proccess whats going on inside and neglecting its other duties. At the time I thought he was kind of whacky but when the new Oriental specialist said much the same thing I figure mabey there is something to it. The uv rays affect me from dawn till dusk. Through windows, clothes and sunsreens. Hence, the continual graveyard shifts at work. They both seemed to working on the culpret of some deficiantcy, however every test I've had shows I have everything I'm supposed to. Now, after 6 months of treatment for my hypothyrodism, I feel great 17 days hive free TODAY!!! It is like a miracle, my thyroid is in order now and so are my hives!!! Guest guest Posted December 10, 2001 Report Share Posted December 10, 2001 my hives were in remission (or i should say i could deal with the moderate itching with very few hives or outbreaks) for the last year or so. the other night i ate a slice of pizza and drank half a bottle of red wine and boom.. i woke up the next mornig with the left side of my body having numerous amounts of huge itchy hives.. i got so scared the whole thing was goin to start again. i took claritan, i prayed, and i fasted for 2 days and continued my herbal medicine (heavy) and so far so good. ive said this before. im taking candicyn from professional wellness along with a product called defend. the candicyn consist of herbs such as pau darco, sodium caprylate, gentian extract, greek oregano, grapefruit seed extract, goldenseal extract, barberry, ginger, cinnamon chamomile and biotin. the defend has selenium olive leaf extract and echinacea angustifolia root extract. these products are supposedly for yeast and digestive problems so i had tried them. for me they work. i feel they clean out my body and i feel they help keep my body in the delicate balance that it needs to be in. finally it probably works because somehow it got into my own " belief system " that it works. 90% of a medicines success depends on your belief that it will work. regards peter Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

Although they saved both my ovaries, I've been so scared that I won't be able to have kids since having this tumor removed. Well, who knows if going off the pill will cure me or not, but if I had at minimum temporary relief like you I'd be so happy! My hives went away in the summer as well.
