Looks like your ferritin is high due to inflammation since your other iron tests are very low.

Would the HC/T3 reduce the Ferritin? These test results are prior to starting

HC. I thought we wanted the Ferritin to be higher in the range?

If you have been on it for 4 months, perhaps you have cleared your T3 receptors and it's causing you to be hyper. By your labs a month ago, you aren't, but perhaps since the labs you have gone hyper which could cause anxiety, etc... Or you are on too much HC and need to taper it a little bit. How is your ferritin/iron labs?

Val is working today, but maybe she will see this later and answer it, or someone else with more expertise. Whatever it is, I hope you get it taken care of.

I've been on HC/T3 for almost 4 months. I can't seem to be able to increase the T3. Symptoms, pressure in chest, shortness of breath, throat tightness, anxiety and just grumpy. (I did have increased stress during this time also) My dosage is very low. Dr seems to think my adrenals are stabilized and the extra thyroid is causing anxiety. He's instructed me to start weaning off the HC, then to try increasing the T3.I would like some opinions on this. If you have RT3 dominance then why are you on Erfa? Are you trying to wean off

it? I know when I was on Erfa I had a lot of anxiety and hyper feelings despite

still being very hypo. Once I got off Erfa and was on only T3 that all went

away. I'm still only on 25 mcg of Cytomel, but I feel way better than I did on

Erfa.

I questioned staying on Erfa, but the Dr was felt strongly about staying on a

low dose. Even with that - the RT3 cleared out very well. I've been on this

dosage for months, and have now started trying to raise. Felt great until last

week with an extra 5mg T3.

At this point, he feels the adrenals are doing fine and it's time to back of the

cortisol.I'm trying to get opinion to back his theory.

Might be a good idea about backing off the Erfa, while trying to raise the T3.

It's such a puzzle............

You still clearly need iron. Your saturation is only 19%. I recently had two

iron panels, one showed a saturation of 13% and the second 23%. My doctor

decided to give me an iron IV to see if it helped, and it helped HUGELY. In

this case, your ferritin is high but not because you have enough iron, but

probably because you have inflammation.

With iron this low you won't be able to tolerate T3 well.

Ferritin 124 (10-232)

Iron, Total 50 (40-175)

Total Iron Binding Capacity 266 (250-450)

% Transferrin Saturation 19 (15-50)

I disagree Total Iron Binding Capacity (TIBC) is very low in range indicating

that she has little capacity to SAFELY absorb any more Iron.

Of course both the Iron & Saturation may be incorrect if the above test wasn't

done early am fasting food overnight 10-12 hours & no Iron supps or high Iron

foods for 5 days prior.

You cannot assume inflammation you need to check CBC, ESR, Fibrinogen,

Homocysteine, CRP if you want to know if it is a factor.

Assuming it WAS tested correctly I would be looking at B Vits (B12, Folate, B6,

good B Multi) Vit C, Vit D (need Vits A E & K as well), Magnesium, Potassium,

Sodium, Sex Hormones to see if they are optimised.

I also think the Erfa is counterproductive. T3 dose is very low too.

I wouldnt be reducing Adrenal meds at the same time as Thyroid meds are being

increased. HC should be weaned only after Thyroid optimised IF you feel able at

that time. UNLESS of course you have obvious high Cortisol symptoms.

Anxiety is often related to Sex Hormones. Estrogen Dominance in particular. Have

you checked out those?

Total Iron Binding Capacity..266 (250-450)

Transferrin Saturation.......19% (15-50)

Sure TIBC is low in range. This means that there is little Transferrin (protein

that binds Iron to make Ferritin) left to safely bind Iron.

Unbound Iron in the blood is TOXIC & is what has potential to deposit in Organs

(damaging them) & also causes oxidation & free radicals.

If her TIBC was high in range THEN Iron could be supped & safely stored.

By the way a healthy Saturation is around 25-30% Lab Ranges are just

ridiculously high. I know her result is 19% however I still would NOT supp Iron

unless you can safely bind & store it.

Ranges for Ferritin are also far too high my own Lab uses range up to 450!!!!

Her Ferritin at 124 is higher than I like to see it. I prefer definitely under

100. Optimal is somewhere between 50-100 depending on the individual. if you

load go with lower end if have trouble absorbing try for upper end. But only if

can do so safely.

Of course the 124 may well include some " sequestration " of Iron which is body

defense if have underlying inflammatiom/infection. Fact remains IF you sup Iron

in that scenario you are only making matters WORSE. You should never sup Iron

when Ill.

How does one go about raising their TIBC?
