Guest guest
I too had high Aldosterone( and the dizzness) My dr. was stumped. The best explanation he gave me was maybe it was because I am a runner. I think that was the only thought he had at the moment. If you find an answer please let me know. S pretty normal- then I took my aldosterone making sure to follow instructions and I am at 33 with a range of 1-16. How can I have high aldosterone, low BP, dizzy upon standing and a history of low adrenals??I am totally confused.

Guest guest
The aldosterone range you gave sounds like the supine ones. We need the ones that would be for sitting upright and those are usually 6-30ish. Do you have another lab range listed? If not then I would call the lab and ask them for their range for sitting upright. Guest guest
That range of 1-16 is NOT correct. That si a SUPINE range which oyu must be laying down for at least 2 hours before the blood draw. The normal range is 4-31 so though you are stil a bit high I owuld suggest gettign CORTISOL tested as it can also cause those sympotoims and if adrenals are able to make aldosterone and not cortils the aldo can go high from constant high ACTH. -- http://nthadrenalsweb.org/ http://health.groups.yahoo.com/group/NaturalThyroidHormonesADRENALS/ http://faqhelp.webs.com/ http://health.groups.yahoo.com/group/RT3_T3/ http://www.thyroid-rt3.com/ http://groups.yahoo.com/group/HypoPets/ http://www.stopthethyroidmadness.com/

Guest guest
Thank so much for the replies. Val yes when I called life extension about the ranges they explained supine vs sitting but I'm still a bit high. Another thought is that the receptor sites for aldosterone are not as active as they should be for whatever reason and the aldosterone is just hanging out in the blood and not efficiently making it to it's destination site. This seems to be a pattern with me anyway with high values in the blood and low in the cell. With serum sodium and potassium levels normal and low blood pressure would I have to discontinue licorice because of the high aldosterone? > > The aldosterone range you gave sounds like the supine ones. Guest guest
Suzanne, That is interesting, because I am also a runner and noticed that I only have the dizziness on standing after a run. I have since stopped running because my adrenals couldn't handle it, but for three years anytime I run I would have orthostatic hypotension. My aldosterone was 7 when it was tested a year ago, so definitely not high. --Steph > > I too had high Aldosterone( and the dizzness) My dr. was stumped. Guest guest
I finally realized I had to stop exercising because I kept getting worse and worse. If I do anything physical now it puts me out of commission for a couple of days. It started with decrease endurance. I used to run about 30 miles a week with a 10 mile run every Sunday. I started noticing that my 10 mile runs were getting harder and harder despite being physically fit. Then I started noticing that I would get hypoglycemic after any long or really intense runs. I would crash after every long run. You couldn't wake me up if you wanted to. I spent more and more time on the couch after my runs and was literally exhausted. I then started noticing that if I stood up after laying down for a while I felt like I was dizzy and felt like I was going to pass out. This is because my blood pressure was dropping when I stood up (orthostatic hypotension). Anyway I didn't realize that my adrenals were the problem and then even after I did realize I didn't know that I was doing more damage by continuing to run. It's pretty frustrating and I would love to get to the point where I can run again. I used to race triathlons and did a lot of running races. Right before all of this started with my adrenals I ran a marathon, which probably put my adrenals over the edge. I've learned my lesson, but now am pretty much afraid to do anything physical for fear of getting worse. I just started HC and am hoping that I'll at least be able to start walking once my adrenals are supported. I think if you have adrenal fatigue any exercise that makes you tired is too much. I will definitely be conservative now. --Steph > >> > >> I too had high Aldosterone( and the dizzness) My dr. was stumped. The best explanation he gave me was maybe it was because I am a runner. Guest guest
Orthostatic hypotension is lowered blood pressure when going from sitting or lying to an upright position. This can lead to dizziness or feeling faint. It is common with adrenal fatigue/low BP. > >> > >> I too had high Aldosterone( and the dizzness)Â My dr. was stumped. Guest guest
Actually I didn't suspect Adrenal Fatigue because I didn't even know what it was. I went to my GP a few years ago when I started having heart palpitations. She did a thyroid (TSH, FT4) test, a hemoglobin test, and an EKG. All came back normal so she told me to go home and told me my extreme fatigue was because I had two small kids. I thought the heart palps were hormonal so I found an alternative doc that I knew used bio-identical hormones. She diagnosed me with adrenal fatigue using the saliva test. My cortisol levels were really low. Unfortunately she put me on adrenal glandulars that had the whole adrenal gland :-(. I didn't know any better at the time and I was on her treatment protocol for 9 months. I also continued to exercise at that time, so was really doing a number on my adrenals. When I stopped running and really started taking it easy my cortisol levels did improve, but they are still low. I recently did a saliva test through ZRT labs. I also went to a doc this week who diagnosed me with Adrenal Fatigue (kind of already knew that), RT3 dominance (also already knew this), Vit D, Vit B-12, Magnesium, and estrogen deficiencies. He prescribe the HC, which I've been on for two days. I'm also on Cytomel and hoping now that I'm on the HC will be able to start increasing. I'm only on 25 mcg after 6 weeks of T3 only. Surprisingly after two days on HC my temps are now 98.3 on avg. They were 97.8 before starting the HC, so not sure what is going on. Anyway...you should definitely have the saliva test since you feel like you have gotten worse on HC. I am definitely curious about adrenal fatigue and hypothyroidism in athletes, but I haven't been able to find any studies done specifically on athletes. I think that my undiagnosed thyroid issue caused the adrenal fatigue and I'm sure the racing and training was really stressful on top of the untreated thyroid issues. Seems like there would be a higher incidence of AF in athletes who are also hypothyroid and are not being treated. I'm in a running group and I only know one other person who was diagnosed with AF. Seems like everyone else can just keep going and going with no problems. --Steph > > >> > > >> I too had high Aldosterone( and the dizzness) My dr. was stumped. Guest guest
You said your Potassium & Sodium were normal. Exactly what were the results & how long ago tested? Do you usually supp either one? Didn't you also test Sodium & Potassium at same time as the Aldo & Renin? Lethal Lee > > >> > > >> I too had high Aldosterone( and the dizzness) My dr. was stumped.
