Hey, you aren't far at all! I coached a volleyball tournament up

there last year. We should get together sometime and run a race!

Well, you run a lot longer than me =)

Hey, I run short races, too! : ) I'm actually doing a 5K with my

husband (his first ever race) in a couple of weeks. I'm slightly

faster than him (he doesn't run much), but I told him this would be

all about him. I was just going to stay at his pace to coach him

through it.

If there are any races between us (maybe something in the Fort

area, which should be about half way), we should definitely do that.

I'll have to look up on the " regional " race calendar and see if I

find anything.

I coached Roy through his first 5K in February. The last part he was

really struggling, so I just kept giving him a pep talk the entire way.

Reminding him that while others were lounging in bed, he was up doing

something phenomenal for his body. That he was taking control. That we

were RUNNERS and runners are people who know to how to set goals and

reach them.

I think he wanted to clobber me just a little. Hee hee. But! I got him

to agree to go with me Sunday morning for a 5.5 mile run around

Greenlake in Seattle (two times around is 5.5 miles). He's not

completely certain he can go that far, but when I offered to do one time

around (which he knows he can do) and then do a walk/run combo for the

second time, he said " I think I'd just rather try to run it. "

Yup! That's what I started with! Then when I got out of the hospital and

had to start over, I just started with walking and every day increased

either my speed or my distance by .10 a mile each day I worked out.

That's still my formula when I want to increase mileage.
