Guest guest
Sorry it has taken me so long to send this back. You have to keep them in the fridge and that is downstairs WAY away from my computer. Anyway, it is called New Chapter - Colon Sensitive Support. I buy them at a grocery store called Life Groceries that specializes in organic and healthy foods. You might be able to get your local pharmacy to order them for you. Wal-Mart told me they probably could get them, but I like going to Life, so I never followed up on it. Michele (with one L) >What is the name, where do you get it? I wonder if it would tame " Puff, the Deadly Dragon " that lives in my rear end? I just decided recently I may try to find out what makes some days better than others RE gas, irregular bowels. It's never been a big problem, but I'd like some relief without getting on Flagly, etc.
Guest guest
Hi everyone. I've been doing the diet for about three weeks now. Made my first batch of SCD yogurt over the weekend and it was delicious. I'm wondering if anyone has an opinion on an SCD legal probiotic. I've heard good things about Dr. Ohhira's Probiotic. Does anyone have an opinion or experience with this probiotic? Thanks in advance! Diagnosed with Ulcerative Colitis March 2008 SCD Diet for three weeks. Guest guest
I use Solgar Advanced 40+ Acidophilus, which work very well. I wanted an acidophilus that has more than one strain of bacteria in it, and this is the best I’ve found. They contain: Dairy, lactose and milk free; suitable for vegetarians. 60 capsules cost $12.90 at Lucky Vitamin, where I order a lot of my supplements. Good stuff, good prices. I also use saccharomyces Boulardii; Allergy Research Group brand; 9 billion (450 mg) per capsule; 50 capsules, $14.02. Other ingredients: hydroxypropyl methylcellulose, cellulose, magnesium. This is the description of what s. Boulardii does: A probiotic, non-colonizing yeast species closely related to Brewer's yeast and not related to the yeast group to which Candida belongs. It aggressively displaces problematic yeast species in the GI tract and has been used in Europe to prevent post antibiotic diarrhea. Saccharomyces boulardii taken orally produces lactic acid and some B vitamins as it becomes established and crowds out the unfriendly strains of yeast. It is then eliminated after supplementation is stopped. During use, friendly probiotic bacteria are allowed to colonize in the GI tract supporting micro-ecology. Saccharomyces boulardii has been shown to increase levels of secretory IgA and research has shown it to be effective against specific unfriendly microbes. Suggested Use As a dietary supplement, 1 to 3 capsule three times daily, preferably on an empty stomach, or as directed by a healthcare practitioner. Refrigerate to maintain potency. Guest guest
Just as a data point, that B. lactis looks like it is Bifidus, and bifidus is not SCD legal. The l. paracaseii, unless it's the same as l. caseii, is also not SCD legal. It can be the very dickens to find just l. acidophilus, or just acidophilus, l. bulgaricus, and s. thermophilus (the bacteria in our SCD yogurt) without illegals or illegal strains. Guest guest
Let me clarify something below. My original post contained a graphic listing the types of acipophilus in the Solgar, and the amounts. But the graphic got stripped. That graphic was just after my words " They contain " below. The Solgar DOES NOT contain diary, lactose, milk. n Probiotics Hi everyone. I've been doing the diet for about three weeks now. Guest guest
Thanks, Ann--from what I read, it needs to be refrigerated. If not refrigerated for a short time, it does lose some potency. So long distance shipping probably isn't a good thing. I'll keep looking. Thanks, Terry Re: Re: Probiotics At 01:56 PM 4/14/2009, you wrote: I found this--wicked expensive, but I think it is American--there is an 888 number to call if a problem. Guest guest
Hi Rose. I take Lyosan yogurt-acidophilus capsules, which are made by the same company that makes the Yogourmet yogurt maker and the freeze-dried yogurt starter. However, I have not been able to locate the acidophilus capsules in any stores here (Toronto), so I have had to purchase them online, from companies such as Lucy's Kitchen. http://www.lucyskitchenshop.com/acidophilus.html (no financial interest on my part) I end up paying the exchange rate, duty, and delivery charges, which make the capsules fairly expensive. However, when I last phoned Lyosan in Quebec to ask about purchasing them directly from the company, I was told that they are only distributed in the USA now, presumably because of low demand here in Canada. These capsules are beneficial to my health, so I plan to continue taking them. Other people, who cannot tolerate these dairy-based acidophilus capsules, take Kirkman's acidophilus capsules, but I am not sure where they order these. I am not sure what significance calcium has with respect to your query, since calcium is a mineral, not a probiotic.
