Guest guest
Is there no one who can answer this question about almond butter containing roasted unblanched almonds? I'm a little surprised. Guest guest
> Is there no one who can answer this question about almond butter > containing roasted unblanched almonds? I'm a little surprised. AFAIK, nuts that are roasted can be legal for butters, because then they are immediately ground and no preservative or other ingredients are necessary. This doesn't automatically mean that this is the case, but it doesn't make it illegal either and I know I've been using roasted nut butters since I have been on SCD. > > > I appreciate your help and support. > > Thanks, > Jill > > >> >> Dear SCD Experts, >> >> Thanks in advance for your help! I've never seen anything about this but I believe roasted nuts are specifically illegal when they are packaged for distribution in that state, since that implies preservatives and other things will be used. So, that implies that roasted nuts that are used for oil can be okay since they will be used fairly immediately once the roasting is over - once again depends on the brand, etc. >> >> >> I read Marilyn's post about queso blanco being illegal. >> Unfortunately, I have consumed plenty of queso blanco at Mexican >> restaurants over the past few months, believing it to be legal. >> Thanks for this tip! That last point didn't worry elaine - she didn't believe some of that hype, I believe only classic diet coke is legal, and not sure about diet ginger ale. Guest guest
Can you not find any that isnt roasted? I would do raw if at all possible. Trader Joes has almond and cashew butter that is very inexpensive and raw-- this has worked out well for me. I'm not sure about the soda. Its a personal decision, but I would think just because of the type of drink it is that you would definetly not benefit from drinking them. > >> > >> Dear SCD Experts, > >> > >> Thanks in advance for your help! Guest guest
Trader Joes has both raw and roasted almond butter, but they aren't blanched. I've only used the roasted, and personally don't have a problem with the bits of skin. I'd prefer homemade (just in case the skins are secretly causing a problem), but I don't currently have any way to grind up almonds into butter. I've always wondered though, why are the skins on the pecans okay to eat, but not the almonds? Can you blanch a pecan? Holly Crohn's SCD 12/01/08 > > Can you not find any that isnt roasted? Guest guest
Jill, I'm way behind and catching up - but I use the nut butters from TJ's and Whole Foods that are roasted. I emailed them, and rec'd replies that no starches are added in any way in the process. TJ's has discontinued their cashew butter, so I buy from Whole Foods now. Side note, my DH eats planters dry roasted nuts, and they def. contain starch - it is listed in the ingredient list. I hope this helps you - Kim in NJ, SBS due to bowel resection Feb 03 2 sons, almost 4, ADHD, SPD, leaky gut, klebsiella oxytoca & candida overgrowth Transitioned to SCD from GFCF Nov/Dec 08 All SCD Jan 1/09 > > > > Dear SCD Experts, > > > > Thanks in advance for your help!
