Has anyone that has gone on Cobra benefits because of a layoff,

encountered much delay in their bypass surgery timeline.

Do they make you start over, or put you on hold?? What can I do to

make sure I am not delayed too much?

- Just because you're on COBRA shouldn't preclude you from bipass

surgery. The trick is to get all the necessary steps done before COBRA runs out

(18 months is all we get, right?) I was on COBRA as well and mine ran out but I

was able to get Kaiser insurance privately. Call Kaiser Patient Services and

ask them about switching from COBRA to private if you hit the 18 month mark.

Let's hope you don't have to.

Otherwise, COBRA shouldn't make a difference - Kaiser just wants to know it

will be paid...

Hope that helps,

, you can also check to see what the

policy is on “treatment in progress” so even if your COBRA runs out

before your WLS is complete, many times there are accommodations in the

contract for treatment that has already been started.
