Guest guest
I think that gross, undigested fatty stuff they call "fatty stools" and it can mean Celiac disease (basically, gluten intolerance). I had those fatty stools every day for about a year and I remember wondering why they looked like that... I called it slime. That's exactly what it looked like to me. It is gross, you're right. : ) But, I think the fatty stools just meant that I was not digesting the fat but instead it was going straight through me. Which probably is why when I went on the gluten-free diet I put on 10 pounds in a few months... and I just thought I had a good metabolism before and could eat whatever I wanted and not gain weight. But, that is because I wasn't digesting the fat, I'm sure of it now. worst bloating and tummy ache EVER When I was at Wonderland I smuggled my lunch into the park ( they don't allow you to bring your own food in) but for dinner I was forced to buy it...no way I was gonna eat something sitting in my bag for ten hours! Anyway it was so disgusting but I ordered a hot dog, and ate half- without the bun. I figured the gluten free option would be best because I knew I was going to cheat the diet and have cake for my friend's bday later on. My other options would have been poutine, french fries, pizza or funnel cake. Splitting hot dog with my friend was $3 instead of paying like $10 for something for just myself...so anyway I got it. After paying 3.25$ for a bottle of water I was a bit on the 'cheap side' lol. Well anyway I had the hotdog and SEEMED fine and I felt ok afterward, even though hotdogs are yucky (don't even remind me...)I was fine, but then I went home and had the cake. Just an average size piece. We had it at about 1am, and I went to bed at 2am. Late night! Well my friend's boyfriend came in with his friends at about 3am from the bars (bad boys!) I woke up when they came in and had a glass of water. Shortly after that I was soo nauseated I thought I was going to puke. Today, 24 hours later I still am. I have barely eaten anything today and feel so sick...I have severe pain on my right side (again) and around the pelvic area. I THINK it was the cake, but I guess it could have been the hotdog too, I dunno. Anyway I thought maybe when I poo it will feel better. When I did this morning (sorry for the grossness) there was huge clumps of white, undigested fatty looking stuff. SO GROSS. anyway I have never felt so gross...so yeah going to doc's tomorrow morning. will see if she thinks I am crazy or not. lol. ugh...tummy...ugh...Miranda
Guest guest
Well I went to my doctor today, and she had a few good things to recommend. I am having my stoll sampled for parasites (just cuz i've been travelling a lot) and other stuff... The thing is I've already had a Celiac test done and it came negative. I talked it over with her, and she said probably I am sensitive to gluten because I also was as a baby. I was on a gluten free diet but 'outgrew' it and maybe it's just irritating me now because my immune system is weak for some reason. Also I have never had a weight loss problem. I weighed 141 at the beginning of the diet (about a month ago) and I now weight 135. I've lost 6 pounds, which is a lot to lose in a month, but I feel SO much healthier, but I don't think that I wasn't absorbing enough nutrients. I felt really bloated a lot though, and gassy which I am not anymore. Anyway it's a bit of a mystery I guess. I definitely think it's a food thing, and my doc agrees...she said I probably have an irritable bowel as well (which I'm sure is what they say when they don't know for sure what's bugging you). The other thing is, when I am on the diet and I stick to it, my poo mostly looks fine. It's only when I eat something I shouldn't it gets all nasty. But she also mentioned that I should see if it's white sugar that's bugging me, because of the bleaching process used in it. Could be... Also, I was talking to her about the fact that my pain seems lessened in the first 4 days or so after my period. My doc. said that was strange, because generally the time when you are most likely to have pain-free sex is during ovulation. She said the fact that it gets better right after my period might point to a yeast problem, because yeast doesn't like blood and doesn't grow a lot in the time you get your period. This makes sense to me, especially because my tongue is still a bit white. Anyone else have this? Although I have been on this diet for a month, the white hasn't gone, and she said that could signify yeast overgrowth. And then that might explain chunky white stuff in poo when I don't stick to my diet. Well we'll have to see! I guess I will just have to experiment myself and hope something works! Guest guest
Miranda, please don’t take any antifungals unless the doc cultures you, gets a yeast strain identification (if any yeast is present) and a sensitivities test to identify the curative agent you could use to control the problem. A doc guessing it might be yeast and treating without a culture could really cause you so much more skin irritation Dusty Re: worst bloating and tummy ache EVER Well I went to my doctor today, and she had a few good things to recommend. Guest guest
My family doctor is REALLY good about this. I was put on a one pill- a-day for my bladder infections and she said to go right off it, because it would do me more harm than good, and that if I got another infection I should be treated with a small dose of pills, instead of taking pills every day for months as a prevention, until I can figure everything out. Also, the main reason I got the culture done from her, is because I know that if somewhere down the line they said they cultured it but did NOT (which could happen, considering the docs I've been to) I know that she will do it properly, and I trust her to do that. Also, I am very picky about when I go on yeast medication. I have only used it twice in my life, and that is thanks in part to following a no-sugar diet, I'm sure. I think if I do have a yeast problem, it's more so in my bowels than anywhere else. Unfortunately things for me now are really annoying...I do have another bladder infection (I'm pretty sure) but my family doctor has set it up so all I have to do is drop off the test with her nurse and she will test it and phone me a prescription if needed, which is SO much more convenient than going to after hours all the friggin time. (yep getting a bit annoying) I'm just worried about when I go to Vancouver (in two weeks) I'll have to find a walk-in clinic right away if this is the way it's gonna be from here on. If my test is indeed positive for UTI, this will be my 5th one in a row. It's getting stupid really...oh well! Guest guest
Frequent UTI’s can be a sign of low estrogen. Maybe you should research this so that you can follow up with the doc. I wonder, Miranda, if a culture can also be done on the specimen collected to confirm UTI? Can a culture be grown of the specimen to identify what is growing and causing the infection and what med will address it ( a sensitivity test)? You might save yourself a lot of pain if you can find out about this – as it would appear that whatever the doc is doing to treat it obviously isn’t working. I think what the nurse is doing is dipping some kind of stick in the specimen and watch what color it turns. This will tell them nothing as to the identity of the pathogen or the medicine needed to cure it. A culture would. Just some thoughts Dusty Re: worst bloating and tummy ache EVER > > > > > > > > Well I went to my doctor today, and she had a few good things to recommend. > I am having my stoll sampled for parasites (just cuz i've been travelling a > lot) and other stuff... > > The thing is I've already had a Celiac test done and it came negative. Guest guest
Yes UTI's are a serious problem...I do know that my tests were mostly cultured- at least the recent ones were. I am waiting for yet another one to come back. I am positive I have another UTI (The fifth one since MARCH???) less than two weeks after I 'got rid' of the last one, and I'm getting to the end of my rope...I was hoping to at least be rid of that by the time I left for Milwaukee and Vancouver, but no such luck. All I can say is my first task unfortunately will be to find a walk-in clinic at this rate. At which point the whole cycle is going to start all over again and when I tell them I have had five UTIs they will again tell me they need to see proof and again tell me they can't do anything more for it. Honestly, getting freaked out about this. I'm in a lot of pain and it's interfering with my life, and nothing is making it go away Miranda
Guest guest
Miranda, I know exactly how you feel!! I used to get UTI's all the time! However, I also suffer from Intersticial Cystitis which mimics the symptoms of a UTI. Has your doctor ever checked you for this? I had terrible bloating, burning and the worst symptom for me... the feeling that I needed to urinate 24/7. My doc did a cystoscope ... I had ulcer like soars all over the lining of my bladder ( what was left of it - I had severe erosion). It was just a thought...because your post brought back all the feelings I had before I was diagnosed with IC. Since I have been taking Elmiron, Librax and wearing Oxytrol patches, (and of course drinking gallons of purified water) my UTI's have decreased dramatically. I have only had 1 in the past year. in MI Original Message ----- From: Miranda Beninger To: VulvarDisorders Sent: Sunday, August 13, 2006 10:08 PM Subject: Re: worst bloating and tummy ache EVER Yes UTI's are a serious problem...I do know that my tests were mostly cultured- at least the recent ones were. Guest guest
Miranda, When a urologist gives you a test where he puts a tiny camera or mirror or scope of scome kind at the end of a tube and inserts that into your bladder, he can see what is going on. I wonder if you have had that done. If you have had a lot of bladder infections the entire inside of your bladder tissue may have turned white which indicates the tissue is totally infected and long term antibiotic treatment will be necessary. If you are having bladder infection symptoms and yet they can't find any infection that means to me that you may have gluten sensitivity/Celiac disease which can deposit antibodies in your kidneys and intestinal tract not necessarily at the same time which causes symptoms like an infection but isn't sometimes. The reason I know this is because I have had the same problem for many years and every doctor I go to for a bladder infection will only give me enough antibiotic for one maybe seven day period and that isn't enough for me but when they retest, they don't find bacteria and once again I am sent to a urologist who will find nothing at all wrong with me. (They also have no clue about what gluten can do to the urinary tract and don't seem to want to know.) At the present time because I couldn't get enough medication I went into a kidney infection from a bladder infection. I am finally learning that when this happens to me I have inadvertently been eating gluten somewhere and this is causing the problem. I also have had the blood in the urine for a long time--typical also of celiac it seems. Your bloating, etc., is another sign of gluten sensitivity. I just want to tell you that if this is your problem and the antibodies are attacking your kidneys, bladder, etc., you should find out as soon as possible and the only accurate way is at Enterolab. You really need to do this. I am wondering if you have had recent kidney function blood tests. One is called Bun and the other Bun Creatine I think. (something like that but I don't remember exactly) Hopefully this will help you. Guest guest
For the culture you are waiting for, can you get a sensitivity test done to find the drug which will knock out the infection? Pls call ur doc and see if you can get this done… especially if you have been taking the same med to “cure” these 5 separate infections. Same med and it doesn’t work – obviously means that the doc has to try something else and the sensitivity test where they grow the culture and then try different drugs out on it to see which one knocks out the infection is probably the best way to go. Frequent UTI’s are a sign of low estrogen. Are you using any topical estradiol and have your hormones been checked? Guest guest
Great points Arline & about a really thorough test for the bladder. It does sound IC (interstitial cystitis) and it just might be caused by glutens with that bloated stomach pain too. Sure sounds logical to me too But I just wanted to also mention that bladder cancer is a very serious cancer and it's often very silent with no serious symptoms and by the time you do, it may be too late as it metastasizes to other organs fairly fast, so it's nothing to fool around with and should be thoroughly checked out. They also can do several cancer 'gene' tests for that. I just had both done (they use urine) and is quite expensive but TG insurance covered it, plus I had a thorough check up of the bladder, urethra, ureters and kidneys with the dye & MRI & a scope etc. not because of any pain or UTI's but I've had blood in my urine for over 10 years. It's microscopic, nothing you can see and idiopathic, no known reason which isn't that unusual either... but it's definitely something to be followed up with deeper tests, so every so often I do it because of the very reason of Cancer. All came out fine (and no gene for it either) but still no known cause, but I DO know how serious cancer of the bladder can be and can be a silent killer so I do hope you get a thorough check up for that hon.
