Guest guest
So, I had another surgical consult today and I consulted with a doc who really knows how to read films although he is very much on the alternative side of things.. My focus with today's surgical consult was to ask about; 1) how is a laparoscopic procedure performed on me? Where would the incisions be? What are the risks? Will this make me more nauseas than opening me up full incision? 2) By the look of my Xray- how does my small bowel look? So, I got my answers to #1 and #2 the doc today told me that for the state of how my colon is my small bowel looks really good (he said he cannot say for sure until he goes inside) but this time I also brought my small bowel series from 5 years ago to compare 1 against the other and have him explain it to me. My small bowel on the older films look so thin and flimsy- the size of shoe laces (he actually used that metaphor Marilyn). In this new series the small bowel actually looks " plumpy " in comparison and does not appear to have severe active Crohn's inflammation. It still is a bit sketchy but has really improved. My jaw friggen dropped with utter happiness. This surgeon says that he is " scared " that my colon has not been monitored in 9 years with a scope. He does not think the mass I have is a problem now but he said it will most likely turn into a problem and that my colon is such a mess that it's a breeding ground for Cancer. They are all saying it is very much pre-Cancer but cannot say it is not Cancer %100 without proper biopsies. He said if I were his daughter he would operate ASAP due to these very bad strictures. The other opinion that I got today also said that I should have the colon removed- ileocolectomy including half of the transverse colon and about 1-2 feet of small bowel. He said the mass looks " encapsulated " which usually means not malignant. So.. I guess I am preparing for surgery.. pretty crazy. I wanted to thank you all for the feedback to my previous post. Marilyn, your post absolutely took my breath away. I have thanked you so many times.. It never seems like enough. I printed your post and put a copy in my kitchen on the fridge and on my night table near my bed. I will bring it with me to my appointments and to the hospital. Your thoughtfulness and words lifted me. Much thanks.. Jodi
