Guest guest
I saw my Radiation Oncologist yesterday, and she told me to quit all antioxidant vitamins two weeks before my treatment begins and stay that way until two weeks after treatment ends. Her reason is that healthy tissue can survive the radiation without vitamin support for the period of treatment, but that any vitamin " boost " might aid the cancer cells in surviving. Makes sense to me. Of course the cancer cells have access to anything the good cells might be benefiting from. Has anyone else been told this? She also said to lay off the pomegranate juice, excessive amounts of berries and other " antioxidant " fruits and juices, and green tea for the duration. Coffee and black tea are OK. She's at New York Hospital, and is the big kahuna there, so she's not a raving lunatic. Take care, R. > I have a question about radiation. I have only seen my rad dr once, and I won't be starting radiation until three weeks after my surg, which is Sept 29, so he will probably be giving me more of those type instructions prior to starting. This is good to know! Blessings,
Guest guest
, I always caution the ladies to check with the onc before starting any vitamins, supplements etc. I do know that there are articles out there that state that some can interfere with chemo. Guest guest
I would think that the antioxidants would be helping to boost your immune system, which is normally responsible for killing off rogue cancer cells. The immune system, if functioning properly, is killing off mutated cells all the time.
