I definitely feel " nutty " about which foods are good/safe and which

are not (nuts are OK I think... in moderation).

I started soy milk last summer because I read about the benefits -

anti-cancer, I believe - of soy. Then my fibroids became

symptomatic, I joined this group, and read conflicting information

about soy. So now I drink rice milk. I want to eat organic-only

meat, but we are on a strict food budget because my husband is

unemployed. I do eat dairy still - osteo runs in my family, too.

But I worry about the fats - my mom died of a heart attack at age

66. Fruits and veggies are good - well, except for the sugars in

fruit, yes? We're only supposed to get between 10 and 25% of our

daily calories from sugars. I don't eat enough veggies, only 2 or 3

servings a day, usually. Trying to eat more fruit now, and I need to

switch to whole-grain bread (I usually eat potato bread now - reminds

me of the bread Grandma used to make, and she lived to 102...). And

don't forget to take your multivitamin, B, C, E, Calcium/magnesium,

flax seed, and essential oils every day!

Pass the Ben & Jerry's please!!

I have made no changes in my diet on account of my fibroids, and

haven't seen any proof that any dietary changes can help anyway. I

try to eat healthfully and not follow any fads - such as low carb,

raw foods, etc. I also think that there is too much hype over soy.

I think that it is being oversold since it is cheap to produce. In

fact many soy " products " are made from the waste products from the

production animal feed. The asian diet does not contain as much soy

as commonly believed, and using concentrated soy products certainly

is not a " natural " way to eat.

I wouldn't worry about sugars found in fruits and vegetables, you are

getting good nutrition and fiber along with it. It's the refined

sugars you have to watch out for.
