Guest guest
You will find a lot of support here in this group. Make sure you take someone with you to your first visit to the onc. Sometimes we are so overwhelmed that we do not hear everything they say. Someone else can take notes or be an extra set of ears. I am sorry you are having to go through this, but we are all here for you. I will keep you in my prayers. Guest guest
Welcome to the group. I had infiltrating ductal carcinoma, Stage II, one bad lymph node out of 23. I had 6 mo of chemo, no radiation and no reconstruction. That was back in May 1990 and so far I am doing fine. Fear of the unknown is the worst. Once you find everything out and get a treatment plan it will get better. I didn't get sick from my chemo. Just a little nausea but there are lots of meds out there to help with that. A lot more than when I had my surgery. We are all here to help answer any questions you may have and give you all the support you need. You will be in my prayers. Guest guest
, When you see the oncologist, be sure to find out the status of your tumor regarding estrogen, progesterone and HER2nu. All of these factors influence your treatment options. It is important for you to do some research so you can be actively involved in your treatment. I have found a lot of cookie cutter medicine involved in breast cancer so have educated my self and am insisting on treatments that are geared to my particular circumstances! Guest guest
I found out in May 2002 and had mast. on Memorial Day Week-end 4 yrs ago...Stage 3 ...had at least 4 nodes locally adavanced...not sure about the rest...could not do reconstruction at the time..too many nodes affected...Had 8 treatments of chemo and finished on Veterans Day Nov 11, 2002 and about 30 treatments of Radiation and finished on Valentines Day Feb 14, 2003...Started in Dec 2002 with Tamoxifin and then in Oct 2003 switched to Armidex...I was doing fine...have to go in for a D & C on June 23rd. First chemo was a little sick...but the rest of the chemo they control the meds and just had a stomach ache and ate tomato soup all the time...When I had chemo on Monday I would stay out of work for the whole week and then go back to work on the weeks with no chemo...had chemo every three weeks...and Radiation was 5 days a week... Guest guest
When I found out I had cancer. they called me at work about 4:20pm and I was getting ready to leave at 4:30pm..and told me to get to the drs office by 4:00 pm the next day...I started crying at work and living alone I had to deal with it by myself...I called my mom because at the time she lived about 10 mins away .. She and a friend of hers came with me to consultation. My mom was coming with me when I had the chemo and taking notes for me...I had finished 4 treatments and was going to have the 5th treatment on Monday and my mom passed away suddenly on Sunday...then one of my moms friends from Church took me to chemo treatments and two other ladies...I had 4 treatments left. They say you can come by yourself but it is best to have someone there to drive you home. My mom kind of helped me through because the ladies at work really did not care...and I did not have many friends...With the lord and my boyfriend I met on the computer and the help of some of the ladies from Church I made it through the rest of my chemo and radiation. It was hard going to the rest of the chemo treatments and my mom was not there with me..but she was there in spirit... Betsy (NC) Note: forwarded message attached. Guest guest
Hello, I was diagnosed just a month ago with same - stage 2, infiltrating ductal carcinoma. You will find that the members here are a wealth of information and support! Some of the best advice that helped me in the first few days was 1) to not be afraid to ask your doctor for something to calm your anxiety and/or something to help you sleep and 2) as I am an overly-analytical type, my sister gave me Dr. Love's book which helped me get educated and understand so much more. For me, knowledge is power and provides some comfort. My surgery is tomorrow, Monday, and I'll post after I get home. Trying to stay calm and collected today and focus on the surgery as HEALING!
