I would like to look into this as well. Guest guest Posted January 21, 2002 Report Share Posted January 21, 2002 I beleive you can specify any carrier you want, you just tell the CA what carrier to use when you make the call. Next time you call relay ask to talk to customer service and request a customer database profile form. It's a form they mail you where you can specify your carrier, what language you prefer, if you use VCO/TDD/ASCII and some frequently dialed numbers. Such as your Doctors or the Pizza place, then you just tell relay "Call the Doctor" BTW... I keep getting a recording that I am not a Sprint customer and if I want to call through their service, I have to become a subscriber etc etc. This is a recording I get when I call through Relay Texas. After waiting for the operator to get through the entire recording and they ask what long distance carrier I would like to use, I've told them I'm on a cell phone. When did they start that? I emailed the director of NY relay and told her of my problems, she said specify to the CA your on a cell phone and they will make the proper connection. I just upgraded to a Motorola StarTac 7858 which is what Pete uses. For this particular phone, there is a 2 button sequence to force it into analog mode. Its FCN 2. Thats it. With the other phone I was looking at, she had to go through several menus and then it didn't seem to work right. This phone worked great with the PVCO and I think I'll be very happy with it. I got the internet package too, so I can do 2 way text messaging and email. Folded up, this phone is about the same size as my Talkabout pager was. Same style of holster. By the way, some of you may already know this, but I didn't until recently... When I called Relay Texas, I had to move the PVCO from the ear piece to the microphone and then push the button on the PVCO that tells the operator its a VCO call. And then move it back to the earpiece. What a hassle! There is a telephone number that you can use that is for VCO relay calls. So no more moving the PVCO around. , do you have that number? I have my home # branded as a VCO #, so whenever I call Relay, they already know it's a VCO call. However, my cell phone cannot be branded, so that does make it a hassle. Yeah, please send it to me! I keep my phone on and turned on, so if someone wants to send me a message or call me (I can see the Caller ID and call back). But I have managed to " lose " it-meaning it fell out of my pocket, even tho it was belt-clipped, and the other time, it was on my waistband (did not have belt loops_) And there is no where to attach a " lanyard " to the phone (you would be amazed at the people I am impressing by using this word); I have ordered a case(?) that you put the phone in, thinking maybe I can attach IT somehow? Also is that number you are using only good for Texas Relay? I did not get an " internet package " , but thought I got two way text messaging; my pkg is $25 a mo. I will use the phone very little, so that is plenty for me. Have had it about two weeks and my son sent me one message. I got the internet package, but sad to say the cellular service tells me their server is messed up for a while and they credited me for the first month's internet service. SO, I don't have a pager, nor can I get email. When they get their server up and going, it will be cool though. I can send and receive email and can check out certain web sites on the browser and Pete tells me you can even access a rudimentary version of AIM, which will be nice! But for now, I can only do the phone thing. If someone is trying to get ahold of me, they can call and I will see their number on the caller ID and I'll call them back using the PVCO. Yeah, the number I posted is only for Texas I think. Where did I get that?? I can't remember where I found it. I had it written on that little owners manual in the PVCO case and had forgotten about it. Maybe I called the Relay service and asked them for the VCO number?? I am disappointed there is no place to hook on a lanyard either. LOL @ how many ppl you are impressing with that word. I wear dresses to work quite a bit and don't have anywhere to attach the holster, and its easy to get out of the habit of putting it on if I have a dress on several days in a row. Let me know how the case works.
