Guest guest
Have you ever looked into the rules of food combining? i.e no starch with protein (not really a problem on SCD), no fruit with ANYTHING, not too much water with meals...bad food combinations are known to cause a lot of exess bloating and gas. Just something to look into!Good luck!AlyssaHello,I've been on the SCD for 4 years but am still experiencing constant bloating. I have been living off of Birdseye frozen packaged winter squash and I'm wondering if this could be the culprit? Does anyone know? I am going to try and go off it, although I am worried about getting enough complex carbohydrates. Does anyone have any ideas what I could eat instead? The only thing I can think of is carrots, but they aren't quite as filling...Thank you so much!!
Guest guest
Yeah I read a little about Chinese medicine and food combining years ago, I always eat my meals in order with protein first then vegetables then fruits, and I always leave a couple hours after eating fruits before I eat anything else. I feel bad if I screw this up. I figured after awhile it would get better, but its been a long time and it really hasn't that much. Thank you!! Guest guest
Try cooking fresh winter squash for a few weeks and see if you notice a difference, or less bloating. I've had some bad experiences with some frozen vegetables and fresh pre-packaged vegetables. I'm assuming that my body reacts to some of the substances used in washing the vegetables. And I think that sometimes the frozen vegetables are blanched before packaging, and it wouldn't surprise me to learn there are some things included in the water that your body might be reacting to. And, of course, your digestion perhaps just can't digest winter squash. Mine can't. I have chronic bloating in my upper GI because of my slow motility (Sphincter of Oddi dysfunction), but even a mouthful of a winter squash sets me back for a week or more with bloating and other uncomfortable to painful upper GI symptoms. You might just need to cut back, and have a winter squash serving less often. Beets and carrots are considered high-carb, but you can eat plenty of medium-carb veggies like green beans and summer squashes and end up with just as much of a carb-intake when you total up the amounts for a day. Guest guest
Look anywhere online, just search 'food combining.' The main one for us SCDers is probably not to eat fruit with anything else, which is hard sometimes since it goes so well with everything =) It's a good thing to keep in mind though, even if you can't follow the rules exactly!AlyssaAlyssa where can I read those??thanks eileen15 months scd> > >> >> > Hello,> >> > I've been on the SCD for 4 years but am still experiencing constant > > bloating. Guest guest
Is this really part of SCD? Some SCD legal recipes like banana or apple " pancakes " and such use fruit in ingredients. Guest guest
, I doubted that using the frozen or the fresh would make a difference, but it certainly did for me. Also, I've found that I tolerate acorn squash better than the butternut. There's also pumpkin as an option, though certainly in these parts, there's none to be had this time of year. I'm extrememly sensitive to everything these days and have to really be careful and choosy to minimize my reactions. Something helpful for me is to rotate foods, so that I have one protein source and one carb source per day, e.g. turkey and acorn squash, beef and broccoli. It's the only way I can tell what's bothering me or not. Then I can add in a new food one at a time, and know what the culprit might be if I have a reaction. I tried one meal of eggs the other day, and that had a sad result. :-(. I knew it was the eggs because of the timing and also because I had the other foods many times and didn't have that reaction. If I had mixed foods every day, I'd never know. Hope this might help you figure out your triggers, Sue R

Guest guest
It's not part of SCD, it's just another thing to consider. It's completely it's own thing though, obviously the SCD general recipes do not take it into account.AlyssaIs this really part of SCD? Guest guest
I'm OK eating small amounts of fresh butternut squash (never tried frozen), but when I try to eat a lot of it I get a stomach ache and gassy -- just too much starch, I think.
