I would move to San Diego in a heartbeat too! Especially since my oldest

transferred there in May and that is where my grandson lives :-) I keep asking

my husband if we can move.

However, there is the little problem of me having my health insurance through

his work, which is in Sunnyvale...aw well...guess I am " stuck " in Northern CA

;-)

I am the first one to count my blessings Pierre, but I am not sure the threat

of termites could get me to agree to bear the cold.

My Father-in-law used to live in Lake Tahoe before he passed away and I would

hate to go outside to even get in the car during winter. It seems to take me

forever to thaw out even after a short while in that kind of cold, and Tahoe

cold is nothing like what you have.

In other words, I am a wimp :-)

The Winterlude festival does sound beautiful though...I will give you that.

The virtual skate is really neat. Does the virtual skate count as exercise

for the day? I have not been able to get on the treadmill since last Thursday.

You should try spending winter in Ottawa, the second coldest national

capital in the world after Ulan Bator. Moscow is actually milder : )

Actually, it's fairly mild today, just at about the freezing point, but we

just came out of a 2 week-long cold snap. On those days, when it's like

minus 20-30 Celsius, I just don't go out much. What happens is that if

exposed to cold, my finger tips turn white and they hurt. Same thing with

the toes and the earlobes. I know I don't have lupus, so, who knows? I kind

of think it's just the chronic renal failure that put my system over the

edge for things like that.

Brrrrr Pierre. I think I would freeze to death in Ottawa. I don't even think I

could go outside if it was minus 20-30 C. I think I will stick with California

:-)

I also have Raynauds, and have had symptoms since my late teens. I also had

symptoms of IgAN since my mid-teens, but I never thought the two were related. I

guess we can never really know for sure what is related to the IgAN and what is

not.

The cold does have some compensations though. For example, not that I use it

myself nowadays, but the longest skating rink in the world opened for the

season yesterday. The skating surface on the Rideau Canal is about 8

kilometres long, and it's really wonderful, especially with all the ice

sculptures and other things during the Winterlude festival in February.

It would be worse if the cold was steady all winter, but as long as it's

intersperced with milder weather it's not too bad. I sure love my

underground parking though!

I can attest to what Pierre says about Ottawa. When I was in Ottawa

one winter, a windy -18 deg C felt A LOT colder than -30 deg C here

in Calgary!

winter (in fact, these next few days!). It's very annoying, but as

long as you bundle up well and don't stay out too long, you can

still go outside.

However, California - esp San Diego where Kris used to live - would

be WAY more preferable. I'd move there in a heartbeat if I

Better hold off on that Dr. Zhivago novel : )

It's 34 degrees F this morning, going up to 46 today, and raining. I see

people down on the street have traded their tuques (Canadian-speak for a

funny tube bonnet with a pom-pom on top) for an umbrella : )

So much for skating on the Rideau Canal. It probably won't reopen now for a

couple of weeks.

It's only 28 in Moscow : )
