Jane, With good documentation from docs/surgeons, the NF2 should be enough

to qualify you... or maybe that's just for us young 'uns? I'm not

sure how working when you apply factors into things. Crew who qualified,

did you guys use documentation of NF2 when you were applying? Were

any of you working when you qualified?

- I have always been " employable. " That is what they said. It is much harder for me to be " employable " now. They (SS) are not around to see my challenges that result from NF2. It has become very difficult for me to be full-time employed. I am not so young anymore - 49 years and aging!

I used documentation of NF2, I was working, but what I did was applied, then went on sick time; working for the State, I had a LOT of sick time accumulated; so I had enough to be on paid sick time until I got the SS okay. Everyone was amazed because I got it the first time (including me and the doc who examined me). I was in the hospital twice during the time, and once I had an apt to see a doc for them, and had to go to CA for surgery; they CALLED CA to make sure! I also think age was a factor. But the difficulty I see is if you work while they are "processing" your application, then they figure you can work! But to go on sick leave, and not know when and if you will get the benefits is tough.

I'm in Australia and don't know that we call it

SSI but am on the blind pension and only took

documents from my opthomoligist(sp.?) I was working at

the time but not now. I do think having nf2 should be

enough as it is in some cases classed as being

terminal. I tried to apply for extra travel insurance

in 99 but was refused because nf2 is classed as

terminal when I qustioned saying I won't die in a year

(guidelines for defining terminal) they said they knew

but nf2 was different was I went to CenterlinK(SSI)

and tried to get extra health benifits for terminal

but guess what, nf2 is not terminal because I probably

won't die in a year. Go figure.

YA, WE ARE BETWEEN THE CRACKS AS WE CALL IT HERE!

I TRIED TO GET PRIVATE HEALTH INSURANCE LAST NOVEMBER. THE LETTER OF

REJECTION I RECEIVED STATED THAT " NFS WILL ONLY GET WORSE IN TIME. " DIDN'T

MATTER HOW MUCH TIME.

IN PREVIOUS YEARS WHEN I TRIED FOR PRIVATE HEALTH INSURANCE AND I COULD

STILL HEAR THE PEOPLE WOULD FLATLY HANG UP THE PHONE ON ME ONCE I SAID I

HAD REOCCURRING BENIGN BRAIN TUMORS! I WAS EVEN A LOT HEALTHIER BACK THEN.

Hi Vicki...When I was in a psyche ward some years ago, I met a woman who

also mutilated herself. Hers was a loss of control over her life and not

knowing how to get it back. She was released one day and was back 2

days later and had hurt herself again. It is a very traumatic behavior

but they have the control over it, no one else.

I feel a very deep emptyness for Anne. She must feel very lost and very

frustrated. It is hard I am sure to know what to do for her.

God bless you both and may he give you the rest you both so greatly need

from NF2. Even if just for a little while.
