Hi Lori,

My condolences on your very deep loss....I wish the best for you and your future

plans for a little one. =o) I just wanted to let you know that I too am

extremely anemic and I have a surgery date just 23 days away. I received my

first injection of Procrit today. It is a drug that stimulates the bone marrow

to produce more red blood cells. I am also taking two Rx Chromagens daily which

will help the Procrit do it's job. I have no idea about side effects yet but

from everything I have read and heard...the side effects are minimal and it is

said to be safe and effective (I hope so). I would recommend finding a way to

correct your anemia now so that you will be prepared for your surgery in the

summer....it takes quite some time to build your iron back up so the sooner the

better.

I am so sorry to hear of your loss. It puts my piddly single fibroid

in perspective, and makes me feel even luckier that I was able to

have two children before this cropped up. I discovered it when I

went to my OB to try to get pregnant again (need fertility drugs).

Because I want to have another child, my OB said that abdominal myo

was the way to go, and very successful after an 8-12 week healing

time. But, with so many fibroids, I don't know what you are facing.

Good luck to you, and just try to find the best RE out there to do

the myo, and hope for the best. Miracles do happen!

I took SlowFe over the counter with no side effcts and got excellent results.

My Hgb was the highest

it's ever been!

I also took Lupron which stopped my uncontrollable hemmorhaging.

I too take Slow Fe and it has helped tremendously. I also just had the

Lupron shot almost 2 weeks ago and the side effects haven't been bad at all.

Just wanted to add that.....

Hello,

I'm very sorry for you loss.

Take slow FE iron for your anemial. Take with a full glass of water or orange

juice. Remain upright 1/2 hour after taking. Vitamin C will help with iron

absorption. Foods rich in iron: beans, nuts, asparagus, oatmeal and red meat.

Foods to advoid: Eggs, milk, dairy, soda, coffee, and tea decrease iron

absorption.

You may want to find an RE Reproductive Endocrinologist to help you with your

future plans for a baby. That's their job and they do a lot of myomectomies.

They do other things like repair fallopian tubes and invitro.

Hi Lori,

I'm so sorry to read about your loss. I kind of know what you went through

since I just had a miscarriage at 8 weeks due to fibroid-related

complications. It was devastating, since I never knew about my fibroids

until the pregnancy. My doctor has suggested getting a myo as well to remove

the fibroids before attempting to conceive again. I am also from the Bay

Area, and I am planning to go see a few doctors, including Dr. Indman

in Los Gatos. Sheila from this board strongly recommended him.

Hi Lori,

I'm sorry to hear about your loss, but wanted to share a bit:

I'm from the SF Bay Area too, my doc was wonderful, very

accomodating, knowing that I want to try to conceive in the near

future (I'm 4 weeks post myo, 6 fibroids removed, the largest at

8cm, 36 years old and want to conceive). Her name is Dr. Bonnie

Massa (OBGYN located at CPMC). My surgery was at CPMC, California

Campus - wonderful hospital) Additionally, my internist (Dr.

Sweet) had a myo recently to have 26 fibroids removed. She's 35 and

also wants to conceive soon. Her OBGYN told her to ttc asap post myo

due to the number of her fibroids. I'd recommend either one of those

two women docs highly.

Hi Lori,

I am so very sorry for your loss. I am 32 and have

been trying to get pregnant with an 8cm fibroid with

no luck, so I am having a myo in May. How many

fibroids do you have? and do you have a surgeon that

specializes in myo's? It has been reported that many

women have mult fibroids removed (I heard as many as

46) and are still able to keep their uterus. As for

pregnancy rates post myo, they are in the 60% range,

depending on whether or not there are other issues.

I have many friends and friends of friends who have

had myo's and are now pregnant or have had succesful

pregnancies. I'm sure it would ease your mind to have

a fibroid free uterus the next time you are pregnant.

Dear Robin,

I have 3 large ones that measure from 9 cm to 7 cm each. The lining

of my uterus is peppered with much smaller tumors. My doctor has

referred me to the San Francisco Infertility Science Center. The

surgeon there, Dr. Willman comes highly recomended. I'm just

nervous about getting pregnant again with those small leftover

fibroids still intact. My doctor syas that if all of them were

removed I wouldn't have any viable muscle left. I have my first

consultation this May so hopefully the surgery will be this summer.
