Hi Amy

I am sorry you are struggling with nausea Amy. I wonder if it might be

worse because of the meds you are taking for your infection? Mine has been bad

in Dec too, and for me only a cup of tea first thing in the morning seems to

help.

I am glad the adjustment of your Lisinopril is keeping your BP so low. That

is good news.

I hope you feel better!

Anyone have any tips for battling early morning nausea? I'm on Nexium which

has worked well for my nausea over the past few months but once again I'm

finding myself being woken up with a very sour stomach. I can now feel empathy

for women who have morning sickness...something I was spared from having

during my two pregnancies. (karma catching up with me I guess)

I make sure to eat a little something before bed but I'm still waking up

feeling like I shouldn't move lest I vomit. Any ideas to help it subside? I

am

doing another 24 hr urine and bloodwork this Saturday. My neph spot checked

my serum creatinine a few weeks ago and it was still holding stable so I'm

hoping that means things are still o.k. on the kidney front. My b/p has been

on a slow steady march upwards too....so far the increase in the lisinopril

has been keeping it down in the 110/80 range again.

When are you taking your prednisone? I remember having a sour stomach a few

times from that, but it was after I had taken it already (in the AM).

I also got that from Cellcept, but that was an all day thing...

I take my pred first thing in the morning after I've eaten breakfast...which has

become difficult since I feel so nauseous when I first wake up. (I've had that

sour stomach from the pred, it's no fun....learned to eat a full breakfast

before I took the stuff really quick) Then I take my Nexium with lunch along

with half of my lisinopril, then the second half of my lisinopril with dinner.

(for some strange reason my b/p stays on a much more even keel if I split my

dose like that...don't ask me why as my doctor always says " you're the one we

never can tell with " splitting a dose of drugs that lasts 24 hrs in your system

anyhow just seems weird but it's what works best for me.) That's all I'm on as

far as Rx's go. Although right now I'm taking the antibiotic for my salivary

gland infection again. I was feeling nauseous like this prior to going on the

antibiotic though.

Hard to say with nausea, without knowing what is actually causing it. I used

to have nausea from Losec (Prilosec in the U.S.). I personally wouldn't

think Nexium would help prevent nausea unless the nausea somehow has

something to do with GERD or something. Good luck in figuring it out though.

I'm not very big on herbal treatments, but sometimes ginger (the real kind,

not the pretend kind in ginger ale) helps with nausea.

The frequent low-level nausea I had when I was a year or less pre-dialysis

didn't occur in the morning, but a few hours after a meal.

Hmmmm....

I used to take 2 Tums before I went to sleep, and that helped most of the time.

I have acid reflux along with a list of other problems. I too take

nexium./prilosec/prevacid. I used to take it in the morning, but since I wake

up with

nausea, I started taking it at night and it seems to help. I also find that

some very cold milk will help coat my stomach. It have found that milk with

some fat (2%+) works the best, Hope this helps.

Thanks Sharon...maybe I should move my Nexium time and see if that helps. I

normally take it around lunch time. I'm on the Nexium due to the long term

prednisone use...after 15 months on it started to eat away at my stomach. I

tried to go off the Nexium when my pred dose dropped only to feel like I was

dying within 3 days I was so nauseous I couldn't get out of bed and the nausea

was waking me up a few times thru the night. I don't use any dairy

products...wonder if soy milk would have a similar effect?

I too wake just about every morning feeling nausea. After I try to get rid

of , nothing, I feel better for the rest of the day. I am on CellCept right

now and it seems to be working. I try to think if an early morning...you

know...is all I have to deal with, then I guess it is OK. When I am working

and

start to feel nausea, I just nibble on some food. That seems to

help....Unfortunately, I am nibbling all day.

There is an enteric-coated version of Cellcept called Myfortic that

helps a lot with the nausea.

The Cellcept certainly can cause nausea. I really suffered from nausea when I

was on it. It helped when I followed 's suggestion to take the Cellcept with

food.

Dear Amy,

Watch out for berries! Especially raspberries. I have the same nausea problem

and raspberries just made it last for 3 days in a row. Blueberries and

blackberries were better.

As for the apples, I like them but they really do a number on my stomach.

Did you find out what is causing the nausea? I have no clue where mine comes

from. I had it before i was on all the meds.

Best wishes,

-beth

Hi Amy

You know, I love apples, but my stomach doesn't like them. If I ate one

before bed, I'm sure it would still be there undigested by morning. Another

thing I never knew until recently, but, I've read that apples can contribute

to constipation if you have problems with moving food through the intestines

(which is something that can happen a bit when you have advanced chronic

renal failure, or are on dialysis).

Hi Amy,

Sorry about your nausea - that is an awful thing - I dare say when I feel that

way I would rather vomit (excuse my language) than keep that nausea feeling. I

know when I was going through it...I actually had to force myself to eat

something in the morning - I didn't feel like it but it was the only way I could

get my meds down when feeling nauseas. As soon as I ate, I the nausea would go

away. I just ate simple things like a slice of toast with a little jam on it.

I'm very happy to see your BP has come down and is running steady ;-) Hugs, Rita

Bart, you think just like I do. I feel SO much better when I don't eat that

I constantly have to fight the mental battle to force myself to eat. I got

scolded by my Neph this week for not eating enough in fact.

I completely understand what you are saying!

None of the standard antinausea anythings do anything for me at all, so I

don't have further (uniformly bad) advice other than this.

My only solution for this is one roundly condemmed by all here and the nephs

themselves:

eat less.

On mornings following approximate fasting days (note, this doesn't include

avoiding things like kool-aide or other sugary drinks, so I am getting some

calories + the neph vitamins) I have no nausea.

On days when I eat relatively little and very carefully, the next morning =

some nausea

On days (like last night) when I overindulged and ate a smallish

steak....whoopsie daisy.

Re: Early am nausea...any tips?

Amy:

I hated the (as my son calls it) " pukey " feeling that I sometimes had. I

tried Nexium, but found that Prilosec worked better for me. Don't know why -

they are fairly similar drugs. That's just me - your mileage may vary.

Amy - that's the worse feeling! Gosh I sincerely hope you can get it under

control. I know I go through that ocassionaly myself. I'm not sure why but

I'll have a couple of days where I have the queasy feeling going on. I feel

for you. Hope the berries work some! Hugs, Rita

feeling. I noticed it's worse when I eat an apple before bed...I'm going to

switch to berries and see if it makes a difference.

Re: Early am nausea...any tips?

Hi Amy,

Sorry about your nausea - that is an awful thing - I dare say when I feel

that way I would rather vomit (excuse my language) than keep that nausea

feeling. I know when I was going through it...I actually had to force myself

to eat something in the morning - I didn't feel like it but it was the only

way I could get my meds down when feeling nauseas. As soon as I ate, I the

nausea would go away. I just ate simple things like a slice of toast with a

little jam on it.

I'm very happy to see your BP has come down and is running steady ;-) Hugs,

Rita

Anyone have any tips for battling early morning nausea? I'm on Nexium which

has worked well for my nausea over the past few months but once again I'm

finding myself being woken up with a very sour stomach. I can now feel

empathy for women who have morning sickness...something I was spared from

having during my two pregnancies. (karma catching up with me I guess)

I make sure to eat a little something before bed but I'm still waking up

feeling like I shouldn't move lest I vomit. Any ideas to help it subside? I

am doing another 24 hr urine and bloodwork this Saturday. My neph spot

checked my serum creatinine a few weeks ago and it was still holding stable

so I'm hoping that means things are still o.k. on the kidney front. My b/p

has been on a slow steady march upwards too....so far the increase in the

lisinopril has been keeping it down in the 110/80 range again.
