Myopia is farsightedness (can see far, but not up close), and progressive means the level of myopia is increasing. This has happened with na too, but seems to be stabilizing a bit. She had just received a prescription change in her lenses 6 months before she started tripping/falling at school this past winter and she started having headaches too. Took her back to the eye doctor and she had developed astigmatism, which to my understanding, is a common occurence, in that the shape of the eye changes. It is corrected with a prescription change in lenses also. Someone else can probably help with the other diagnoses. Dena
Guest guest
I have spent many days at the eye doctor with my son -- he doesn't have all of these problems but here is how I understand the following terms: Astigmatism -- "when the cornea is shaped more like an oblong football than a spherical baseball, which is the normal shape. The oblong shape causes light rays to focus on two points in the back of your eye, rather than on just one." http://www.allaboutvision.com/conditions/astigmatism.htm Ptosis -- droppy eyelid Strabismus--alternating esotropia -- The eyes are turning inward. See this link for a full definition. http://www.strabismus.org/esotropia_eye_turns_in.html Hope this helps, Sue Ann Calling all eye experts! Guest guest
Hi Deb: You can have some of these with mito and you can have some of these normally. Astigmatism is how you are seeing things. I believe with nearsightedness. I have a slight astigmatism. And is myopia also nearsightedness. But ptosis can be related (not always) to mito. There are other people out there with one eye that has ptosis. But it could mean it is related to mito. There are so many things we are learning. But call and talk to your doctor more about an explanation of it all. Doesn't hurt to always ask questions. Guest guest
Dena! What a cool idea! When I was 15/16 I had the strabismus surgery which was a NIGHTMARE. That was back in the mid '70s and I went to the " best " eye surgeon in Portland, Maine at the time. Well, he over corrected my eye so I had double vision for years....with absolutely no depth perception. By the time I was a sophomore in college, I was in prismatic lenses which looked horrible. Eventually, I learned to " turn one eye of " to get by. My double vision is not too bad anymore, only when I am extreemly tired. I bet I could do the two different lenses with much success! My eye doctor said there are bifocal contact lenses.....around 400 bucks.....I don't think so! Carol
