Time to go! (and another idiot doctor story)

Hi friends,

I hope 2004 is off to good start for all of you! May you all be showered with blessings this year - you are certainly deserving.

It's 1:00a.m. Friday. I wanted to send a quick message before I go to bed. I'll spend tomorrow packing and catch the first of 3 flights en route to Mayo Clinic at 9:50 Saturday morning. I'm feeling apprehensive, but excited. I promise to give you all the play by play when I return. I'm hoping for answers - whether they bring good news or bad news.

This has been a rough week as I've adjusted to coming off my latest Pred burst. Pain has increased big time, breathing has been a chore, and I've been running a fever (for months) that keeps my hair drenched most of the time. Not very glamorous. :) I've spent a lot of time in bed.

Now the idiot doctor story; As I've organized my records for Mayo this past week, I obtained the report of my gallium scan that was done OVER A YEAR AGO - September 2002. My GP had told me that the scan showed nothing. This test was important to me because Dr. Baughman recommended it. He said that if nothing showed up on my gallium scan, it was very unlikely that sarc was my diagnosis. So, hearing that the scan was clear, I had to face the fact that sarc was probably not my problem, despite my own gut feeling, Well, guess what...

I read the report myself as I was organizing my files. It reads, in part, "There is an abnormal uptake noted in the right lung base of unknown etiology. Could represent a peripheral pneumonia. Correlation with chest xray and CT scan is recommended."

I couldn't believe it!! Even if I don't have sarc, I'm a lifelong asthmatic! How could she overlook this!! I even asked her to check it again months later because of a finding in my blood work! She NEVER mentioned anything about abnormal uptake in the lung - even though I constantly complain about shortness of breath (unlike my asthma). This may be a meaningless red herring - but she should have told me! And I think she should have ordered the chest xray!

Am I overreacting here??? Oh well, the good news is I'll have some very good doctors to (hopefully) sort it all out for me.

Sorry, guys - just had to get that one off my chest. I know you all can relate. And I wanted to touch base with you once more before I go.

My love to all of you. Thanks for listening.

Sandy

Dear Sandy,

Good luck with Mayo. Take the gallium scan with you and perhaps they will do

another? Wishing you the best!

Love Aisha

Sandy,

I so understand your frustration, I have had doctors do such things to me as well and its very hurtful and to say the least they make you feel like a fool cause if anyone goes with you they look up to the doctor and they listen to what and take what the doctor says to be the gospel truth, well honey I have found them to be no different than you or I and no you aren't making too much out of this and I would demand some answers before I go from the doctors.

Hope this reassures you that you aren't doing anything wrong here, ok...........

This sounds like some of the things I found out.

You need to make a copy of this report and give it to Dr.Baughman.

I bet he never got a copy of the report.
