Guest guest
Kukalaka: Is the " 1-2% chance each month " of conceiving a child the figure the RE quoted to you today? That sounds awfully pessimistic to me, even at age 43. Don't let statistics get you down. Don't let figures stop you from doing everything you can to try to conceive and bear a child. Wasn't it you yourself who challenged another poster to rethink figures given to her about recurrence of fibroids. I think your words were " what does she have to predict that--- a crystal ball? " . Wasn't that you?? ; ) Don't you hate it when someone quotes you back your own words of advice!!?? Ahhhhhhhhh........Interesting parallel story... I think..... I just this very minute turned on the TV (CNN) and learned the incredible, joyful news that Smart, the Utah child abducted nine months has been found. Oh, Happy Day!!!!! What were the odds of finding a child kidnapped from her home nine months ago. Oh, probably about .0001%. The trail was so cold, and the ODDS OF LOCATING A CHILD ALIVE after all that time are, statistically PRACTICALLY NIL. But she's been found. She's alive. HALLELUJAH!!!! So much for those statistics, huh?!!!!!! I should also add, what were the ODDS I would turn on CNN and actually hear a HAPPY STORY being reported in these very troubled times???? Oh, about 0%. So, I don't know for sure if there is a message or common theme here--but Kukulaka, maybe there is!!!!!!!--i.e, " Finding a Child..... Against all odds. " Yes, and may that " theme " today prove to be PROPHETIC for YOU!! If it IS prophetic, and you DO have a child........will you name the baby after me? Just kidding!!!! LOL!!! I really hope and pray that you may soon fulfill your desire to have another baby. I'd like to think I can , but no, I can't fully comprehend how devastating losing a child must be. And then, your mother. My heart goes out to you for two very significant, very heartbreaking losses. You wrote " My fibroid reminds me that there's very little hope for me. " Now, you don't REALLY believe that, do you? ; ) You just sound weary, tired and frustrated at the moment. I don't think you'd be an active part of this support group-- if you believed there was no hope. Wishing you renewed hope and, of course... success with having a baby, Roma
Guest guest
Hi Roma, Yes, those were the odds the RE quoted today - 1%-2% each month. I knew they drop big time after 35. But these stats were really dismal. My hubby is 5 years older than me and that didn't help the RE said. Apperently, they swim too slow and can be deformed. I told my hubby we can have races to get them in shape but I get to hold the stop watch. I told my hubby that maybe I just needed younger sperm. LOL So I still have my sense of humor. LOL The RE said fibroids can lower your chances to zero. OUCH! For a lot of women! I'll tell you, there were more preggie women there than I ever saw at my GYN's office. Maybe REs are better with their surgeries at fixing problems. She said they do myos, repair fallopian tubes, repair ovaries (fine detail surgery). This RE was certainly confident about her abilities. Not like my GYN here. My son was handicapped and we were asked by his doc not to have more children. He said other kids could bring home bugs that could kill him. We knew of other parents of handicapped kids that were told the same. We also knew a case where this did lead to the death of the handicapped child. Our son took a lot of time and it was time well spent. I still don't regret this decision. Any other decision would have been unfair to the son we already had and unfair to another child. Yep, I said the crystal ball thing. No, I don't mind having my quotes quoted back at me. It's tells me someone is reading them. You got a sharp wit and masterful writing. I got a feeling that they just might know more about " getting pregaunt " than they do about fibroids. They don't seem to know much about fibroids. If you want to hear some real $ figures, listen to an RE quote differant fertility treatments and then the stats for them. Skip buying the new car (UAE, myo and hysts $ quotes), we're talking house money here and I mean a nice large house and with NO guarentees of sucess. And as the RE said, insurance don't pay for fertility treatments. She said insurance would pay for removal of fibroids especially with anemia. I actually like your name " Roma " . I've never heard it before. LOL Now, was your name made fun of when you were a child? Gotta be careful. But I called my son " Puppy " so maybe I'm not the best judge. And yes, " Puppy " is on his marker and everyone called him Puppy. He was just like a happy little puppy wanting to play and be friends with everyone. A jolly little guy, always with a smile. He smiled in his sleep, I kid you not. I can't even imagine how the Smart family feels about finding their lost daughter. Even " joy " can't possibly describe that feeling. : ) Thanks for your thoughtful and encoraging post.
