Guest guest
Thank you for your response. I have a submucosal fibroid. Most of it is inside the uterine cavity. (middle and towards the back) I don't know how much is in the wall. The tech thought it was all in the cavity ecept for a stem, the doc said she thought it was partly in the wall. I was told that I couldn't have a resection if any of it was in the wall. This would make me a bad candidate for a UAE from what you were told. That just leaves me with a lap myo or ab myo. I'm not sure about a lap myo? Does this sound reasonable? Shirley wrote:Kukalaka: Go to the web site: www.fibroid.com and look under uterine artery embolization (not www.fibroids.com) and you will see some of the potential side effects. A surgeon told me that you can end up with a chronic infection and may end up needing other tx, especially if you are doing a UAE with a submucosal type in the lining of the uterus, which is my kind. I want it out..... so I'm opting for a hysteroscopic resection. They also provide info on other noninvasive tx's when you enter the web site mentioned. You can also ask about a referral to a MD nearest you, who is qualified to perform these options. My GYNE for the past 5 years had the nerve to tell me that UAE can be done for any type of fibroid and therefore it was not necessary for me to know the type or size. I proceeded with a 2nd opinion. Somehow they think our brains don't operate. Best wishes. Shirley T.
Guest guest
Hi Kukalaka: Yes,you sound ideal for the lap myo, as this is what the other surgeon was offering me for the intramural fibroid in addition to the hysteroscopic resection for the submucosal. Where do you live? What are your tx goals? Are you seeking to have children? Shirley
Guest guest
Hi, Because of my age, 43 they say I only have a 1-2% change each month of having a child. There's nothing more that I could want. I'd give up everything. I lost my only child, a son a few years ago. He could NEVER be replaced. He took Christmas, Easter, Halloween, Thanksgiving VD Day, even bithdays (we celebrated our birthdays together as a family-sharing presents, food, everything together), all holidays and a big piece of me. I loved being a Mom more than anything and we were like kindred sprits. I believe it's differant, having a child and losing that child vs never having a child at all. You know exactly what you miss after having one. I can put things in perpective. I know how bad things can get. Nothing can compare to losing your child, NOTHING. Even losing my Mom last year couldn't touch the pain I already had. I really do miss my Mom. My fibroid reminds me that there's very little hope for me. That means it causes me pain in more than one way. I went to an RE in Louisville today. She was very plesant. She quoted the odds of pregnancy. She also said that she could do a myo and didn't see a problem. She wants me to do a Saline Infusion Sonogram to see how much of the fibroid is in the uterus and this will tell her what's the best myo for me. She said she could test my hormones to see if I could get preggie at all and test my hubby's sperm. So, not much hope that I'll ever get to be a Mom again but I might get rid of this fibroid without having excessive bleeding and an emergency hyst.. Guest guest
Shirley, don't give up hope. A lot of women get pregnant in their mid-40's. Also, you're still young enough to adopt a baby, if not here, from another country. Keep these options open for yourself. Deb

Guest guest
Shirley, You can adopt from another country. The criteria is that you can't be more than 45 years older than the child you adopt, so you could still get a baby. Russia is where many people go for white children but many other countries participate.

Guest guest
Hi - We used two different agencies. First off I live in California but I know the second agency we used has offices all over the U.S. The first time we adopted we used The Children's Home Society which has since stopped doing private adoptions. The second time we used the Independent Adoption Center and had a very positive experience both times which resulted in two healthy newborns in a fairly short time. If you have more questions please feel free to e-mail me privately as I'm sure not all these ladies care about this subject! Amy
