Guest guest
Hi,I could use help with good SCD snacks that do not help with weight gain, ie lower calorie snacks. I don't at this time need to gain weight, in fat I used to be fat, lost the weight a good while back, lost another 10 lbs when I gave up gluten ( I loved good crusty bread and butter; stopped that and whoosh, more weight off.) Now I snack on pecans. A lot. Not sure what to munch instead when a bit hungry. Am doing some organic little carrots, but may be a bit much raw for my gut. And not much fun cooked. Would love something to eat with hands, ie not needing a utensil. Many thanks,Ruth
Guest guest
The best snacks for me are a food that is mostly protein, a food that is mostly carbohydrate and a food that is mostly fat. The combination of the three seems to keep me from feeling hungry for a longer time than eating just a food that is mostly carbohydrate. Some good protein sources for snacks are a hard boiled egg, a slice or two of cheese, a few shrimp, about ¼ cup of DCCC (need a spoon to eat this) or a mini-serving of tuna or chicken salad (also need a utensil for these). If you like snacking on pecans, you can use that for your food that is mostly fat. If you have tuna or chicken salad, you get fat from the mayonnaise. The part of the snack that is mostly carbohydrate is hard to say because I don’t know what fruits and vegetables you tolerate. You could eat 1/3 or ½ banana, a small serving of applesauce or pear sauce. If you can tolerate raw carrots, maybe you are ready for some raw fruit with the skin pealed, like half of an apple or pear. Guest guest
A friend of mine on another SCD site for people with Celiac introduced me to this snack. Its can be made as a dessert or snack, depending on what you put in it. For example use 1 banana, mush it up add a scrambled egg, and beat them together with a fork (dont need a mixer), you can add honey, cinnamin--whatever you want. Then pop it in the microwave for 2 minutes. I LOVE it. You can use squash, apples, beef and cheese, really anything, and it turns into this fluffy danish/ keesh type of dish. It has been a total life savor for me. > > The best snacks for me are a food that is mostly protein, a food that is > mostly carbohydrate and a food that is mostly fat. Guest guest
Thanks for this idea--it looks great and easy for me to do even at work where we have a fridge and microwave. I really appreciate these kind of easy, filling ideas, especially for work days. I didn't originally write the post for food help, but if anyone has any other snack ideas like this--please post them. Between these and Marilyn's 20 min. meals we could get an SCD book going! Guest guest
Sorry I'm replying to this post from so long ago! I was wondering how you do it with apples and other things than banana and egg. I'm really interested in the specifics of exactly what you do to make this, becuase it sounds easy and delicious!!Thanks!AlyssaA friend of mine on another SCD site for people with Celiac introduced me to this snack. Guest guest
Okay, so I just tried this and shared it with my wife. Awesome! And a great way to use those bananas that get over ripe for me (I like them more on the green side than the ripe side and seem to tolerate them fine). Questions: What do you put it in when you microwave it? Do you add the beef/cheese/apples/honey/etc. BEFORE you cook it or AFTER? Thanks for the tip! If I have learned anything on this “diet”, it’s that the array of foods I eat now is MUCH wider (and tastier, healthier, more pleasing) than it ever was before – with help from folks like you! , SCD 6/19/07, IBD 1989 Re: food help wanted Posted by: " celiacwhits " wschmucks@... celiacwhits Sun Apr 12, 2009 11:30 am (PDT) A friend of mine on another SCD site for people with Celiac introduced me to this snack.
