Guest guest
I went to the Mayo clinic today. The rheumatologist did blood work and I am in a flare......... Go figure... Funny how we know when this occurs. Then the rheumy ordered a cortisone injection for my painful left elbow, so i got the injection, and now my left hand is paralyzed like........ I can not use it, so I called the ER here in my town and and the dr was sort of concerned about it. so i went into the ER at 12:40 AM . the ER dr who was a different one then i talked to on the phone, said this could be normal and it may stay this way for a few days. i am pissed.... the dr i called on the phone was quite concerned, but not the er dr. so here I am with a paralyzed left hand, and I am scared shitless.... Is this common after a cortisone shot??????? I plan on calling the mayo clinic (in Rochester, Minn) in the morning, dang hope they dont want me to come back there as it takes about 4 hours to get there... oh btw, i am on prednisone again....... bahhhhhhhhhhh pissed off in Iowa
Guest guest
, sounds like you've been put through the ringer...but it is a good idea to call Mayo and ask about that strange side effect. Hopefully it is temporary ... You're right...we usually do know when something is wrong in our own bodies. Wish doctors would listen to us more often...especially with all we've already been through. Hope it clears up soon... hugs S. S wrote: I went to the Mayo clinic today. The rheumatologist did blood work and I am in a flare......... Go figure... Funny how we know when this occurs. Guest guest
so here I am with a paralyzed left hand, and I am scared shitless.... Is this common after a cortisone shot??????? , it's not common. But I do know that if the MD hit a nerve just right, that you can get a reaction like this. If it's not better Monday, get back in touch with the MD. If you're having swelling or redness in the area, bet back to the ER-- Redness can be a sign of infection. Swelling, they'll probably tell you to ice it. Hang in there, take some deep breathes, and be kind to yourself. I totally understand the scared stuff, so many times when we do one thing to help ourselves, we end up with a reaction that doesn't make sense. Hugs to you, Tracie
Guest guest
sweetie i'm so sorry you are having such a time with this. It doesn't seem like you should have had such a reaction but the again i have only had injections in my knee before and not my elbow. The ones i had in my knee never did any of those things. ((((((((Hugs)))))) I wish I could do something to make you feel better. If I were you I would indeed notify the doc and see what to do if it's not better. Rest and please do take care of you hun. Guest guest
Dear , I always use medlineplus for drug references. It's quick and easy to read. When you go to http://www.google.com put in " medlineplus drugname " and you will get the list of drugs it matches. If you go to http://www.google.com and put in " medlineplus cortisone " you will get the medlineplus FAQ on cortisone, including the shots. There was no mention of paralysis but I only skimmed it. I'd phone a doctor ASAP if it happened to me. Hope you are better soon. Love Aisha. -- Mayo ughhhhhhhhhhhhh!!!! I went to the Mayo clinic today.
