Guest guest
I have Crohn's too. The first time I did the diet, I jumped right in and continued getting sicker and sicker until I wound up in the hospital. I stopped the diet when I came out on Prednisone, Imuran, Pentasa and antibiotics. As the prednisone tapered, I started getting stick again. My doc told me her initial diagnosis was wrong and I had very aggressive CD in Dec 07 I decided to try the diet again. I re-read the book but skipped over the intro diet part again. I didn't learn of the intro diet until Feb 4 08, i started it Feb 5 08 and the pain, bloating and gas were almost gone. Within a week, I felt almost normal again. I had to add foods very very slowly as I reacted to almost everything that wasn't on the intro diet. It took about 3 months before I could start adding and eating a varied diet. Now, I can have raw fruits and veggies from time to time without reaction (if I over do it, I still react). If you want to get better, you have to do it slow. You have to give your guts time to heal so they can start absorbing again. The weight will come, but it might take a while. Take it slow, watch nut butter/flour, high fiber veggies, raw anything, and fruit juices. I had so many setbacks at first. I still only allow myself nut butter from time to time and peanut butter only once in the last 6 months. You might not react to these things as I did, but until I realized what was holding me back, I wasn't doing so great on the diet. Good luck to you and I hope the diet works out for you. If you rush, it won't work. Misty Kimble CD - no meds SCD - 14 months > I jumped right into it. The only thing I haven't attempted yet is the yogurt. The diet doesn't seem to be doing me all that good and it was suggested that I should have ease into it by limiting fruit and veggies that are high in carbs and eliminating nut flour all together. But I really need to gain weight and I'm not sure limiting food even further is the way to go. > In short, I'm looking for more opinions. How did you start the diet? How long did it take before you felt better? Do you have any tips you think might help me? > Thanks! > M. >
Guest guest
Hi, It would be nice if you signed your name...so we know who we're talking to! When adding new foods to your diet, start with 1 tbsp for that day, wait 2 days, have 2 tbsp, wait 2 more days and if you have no bad reactions, you can go ahead and have as much as you want every day. Having said that, it's always best to rotate your foods. For cooking vegees, it's best to cook them till they're well done at the beginning of the diet and as you progress, they can be less cooked. Don't forget to peel and deseed them. GERDS and chronic C SCD 1 yr ***** My question is when do I add other foods in and how long should I give it inbetween adding foods. I love black olives and really want to eat them, lol. I just can't seem to find how long to go inbetween new foods. One more question is how long to cook the veggies, I know the carrots take 4 hours but what about the zucchini and green beans, thank you >
