I got mine at SEARS. It is the cheapest brand. It has walking handles

to give your upper body a work out too, but I havent gotten the

coordination to do those yet! LOL It also has a calorie counter,

miles walked, time walked, miles per hour and fat calorie counter.

Hi Ron....

I own a life fitness TM. it's rated for 350 pounds and does

everything you need in a treadmill. I purchased mine from OMNI

fitness a chain located throughout California. Sears is also a good

source for treadmill machines but a lot of them are not for heavies.

Good luck.

Hi Ron,

I think when they say a weight limit of 250 pounds, it is because of the belt. Most of the cheaper ones come with a very thing conveyor-belt type thing, and that belt will bunch up and/or break. Also the motor that moves the belt can get caught up with too much weight. But heck -- who has a scale on a treadmill anyway? I would assume that the 250-pounds is a guideline, and no one will question it unless you need to invoke the warranty. Even then, I doubt that the service people really care how much you weigh, if you don't volunteer the information. I'd get an extended warranty, though. ;-)

Sears is usually pretty good about warrantying their stuff, and they offer quite a variety of relatively-inexpensive treadmills.

I do have to say that if you expect a home treadmill to be like one at the gym, you're going to be really disappointed...unless, of course, you're going to buy a professional quality one. You might want to join a gym for a few months, rather than invest in a home machine. I had a home machine from Coscto and it was a really expensive dust collector that sat in the corner. I didn't like using it because it was too noisy and too "rickety" -- not smooth and quiet like the ones at the gym. It was also INCREDIBLY boring. I thought, "Oh good, I can read or watch TV" -- NOT. Watching TV was out of the question because the volume had to be turned way up to be louder than the loudness of the treadmill's motor. I never read because there was no place to hold a book and I couldn't hold it steady enough in my hands to read it.

But, if you're convinced that's what you want, and are willing to fork over $300+ to get a cheaper one, then go for it! I've heard that Play It Again Sports will often sell decent quality treadmills at reasonable prices. And some stores will give you a trial-run, money-back guarantee.

Ha ha - more than you wanted to know, huh?
