like.

Dan,

I spent several months tolerating roast beef, roast pork, soft boiled

eggs, peeled steamed zucchini, and butter or cheese or the zukes.

Then I was gradually able to add different homemade spice

mixtures.

BUT: I could not, and still cannot, eat the same kinds of spices several

days in a row. Like, I can have homemade chili for dinner... but if there

are leftovers, I better not plan on it for at least 4-5 days!

Similarly, I make pepperoni snacking sticks... but I can't have them more

than one or two days in a row. I make a lot more plain salt-n-pepper

sticks than I do pepperoni or Cajun BBQ.

I totally agree I can eat certain things once in awhile but never 2x in row....Lucky you if you tolerate chili...love it and it does not love me as a matter of fact anything with beans in general I have a problem with, also lettuce I can not tolerate and I love it. Everyone is different and I believe we are lucky to have the SCD as a baseline that works for us 95% of the time, as you will always find exceptions to the rule good and bad.

Suzanne,

I love chili -- but I make it with lentils, not beans. My husband doesn't

like most beans (except green beans), but he does like lentils. Go

figure. I generally seem to do better with the lentils... maybe because

they're so small, they soak better?

Lettuce and I get along fine... as long as I take a dose of acidophilus

with it.

I couldn't, for awhile after Katrina, figure out why I was suddenly not

tolerated lettuce.... and then it dawned on me that I wasn't using my

yogurt-based salad dressing because I had no ability to make yogurt with

irregular power supplies and all. So I started taking extra

acidophilus WITH the salad, and I was fine again.

SCD is our compass... but every one of us has a different terrain to

stumble over as we follow it.

Well said Marilyn....I will try the acidophilus trick with the lettuce, I guess I call lentils beans also but they also give me trouble not as much as others but I love them !!For me its a fiber issue I have IBS and anything low residue does well for me and anything higher is fiber gives me trouble. Oh well life could be worse....LOL....if this is all I can certainly handle it! I have read that peppers can be kind or irritating for some people. And also the reverse - they can be helpful for other people. Andact as an anti-inflammatory:Capsaicin as anti-inflammatory: In recent years, researchers discovered that capsaicin is a potent anti-inflammatory, and have even pinpointed how it works to fight chronic, sub-clinical inflammation. The nuclei of human cells contain chemicals called nuclear transcription factors (NTFs), two of which—activator protein 1 (AP-1) and NF-kappa B—are especially important targets when it comes to prevention of cancer and premature aging of skin. Each of these NTFs can be "activated" by ultraviolet light and free radicals: a result that produces a pro-inflammatory chain reaction that promotes premature aging and a wide variety of degenerative diseases. As it turns out, nature offers several effective NTF-activation blockers, including the capsaicin in chilies, and the yellow pigment curcumin in turmeric.I've never had a problem with them - which I'm pd happy about. They are a member of the nightshade family, which are said to have inflammatory properties. Many people with diseases dealing with inflammation, such as arthritis or IBD, avoid the nightshade family for that reason. I don't have any personal experiences with this as I am avoiding all nightshades at the moment, but it may help to explain your problems =)AlyssaI've been wondering how everybody else tolerates these things.
