I read that women should take 25 mg per day. Men should take 50 mg per day.

DHEA

For those taking DHEA for adrenal support, how much are you taking?

Dr. Woliner said to take between 25mgs and 100mgs a day. He said I

should be able to tolerate the 1grain of Armour with that. Do you

think I should take the DHEA for a few days first just to make sure?

Also, he said to cut back on the DHEA if I get Acne or

agressive...what's up with that?

Thanks,

I think this is mainly for those folks who just pick up a bottle to take it

as an anti-aging supplement. That is far different from folks who know they

are low in DHEA. I would not take it unless I had been tested and knew my DHEA

level...and that it was low.

I don't know your age...but at age 50, DHEA starts to decline. I really

wouldn't supplement unless I knew for sure my DHEA was low or I was 50 or over.

Hi ,

I was prescribed 10 mg a day but right now I'm only taking 5 mg a

day. I think there are different kinds of DHEA. Did your doctor

tell you to buy it over the counter or did he give you a

prescription? Mine is compounded at a pharmacy so maybe it is

stronger or purer than the store-bought kind? The first couple days

I took 10 mg I noticed I felt angrier than usual (not implying that

I'm usually angry, lol!), but I've always been kind of sensitive to

drugs. I need to start out slow. Congratulations on getting a great

doctor!

I have a concern with anyone that takes anything without testing myself. A good

example, my estrogen was low, cortisol low normal, progesterone low,

testosterone low, yet dhea over midway. Very weird. I know several people that

felt worse taking dhea than not.

Well speaking from personal experience (I have taken 50 MG DHEA for over 4 years

every day) I have to say it is one supplement I will not ever be without again.

I do get acne once in a while when it happens I cut the dosage for about a week

in half. It goes away. I have had no excess hair, in fact I don;t even have to

shave my legs anymore sue to thyroid hair loss that has never returned since my

crash 5 years ago. I fell the difference if I do not take this supplement. I

fell it in more tired and less stamina and shortness of breath. There is a good

book out about DHEA, I read it back when I first started taking it but can;t

remember the name.. Do a search on Amazon.com and I am sure you will find it,

something like DHEA breakthrough. It is NOT hype.

Whether my DHEA is high or low, do you think that if I don't go over

25mgs that it is pretty safe? Also, do you have to ween yourself off

of DHEA when you do discontinue it or can you just stop? By the way,

I took my first 25 mgs earlier today. I will start the Armour again

tomorrow. Remember last month I did not react well to it.

, you have nothing to worry about. You are not taking megadoses

of dhea. You are not depending on it alone to solve all your problems.

You have an excellent doctor and both of you are looking at the whole

picture. We all know that there is no one cure-all. Just because some

people want to take a good thing and go crazy with it doesn't mean those

who use it judiciously are quacks also.

Also, {{{{{{{{{{{[hugs}}}}}}}}}}, I think your weak adrenals may be

causing you to stress over this too much. Since you have such a

wonderful doc, maybe you could try to let him do the stressing..... at

least some of it. You are really blessed to have such a wonderful doc.

To make you feel better, there are also articles on the net that say

that Armour is dangerous, inconsistant and unreliable....and we all

know the truth about that, don't we??

Hang in there.

I'd say anything in the bottom 1/3 would be low. Funny how these labs do

things. Was this a DHEA-S lab? On mine, I had a 84 out of a range of 44-352

last

time and previously had a 83 out of a 32-240.

Would a DHEA count of 334 in a range of 130-980 be considered low?

Gosh, when I called the endo to get Mom's result, he told me it was 6.

But I forgot to ask the range! I'm going to ask for a DHEA test for

myself next time.

I think the key words here are " No one should take DHEA except under

the supervision of a physician, who should routinely check steroid

and cholesterol levels, glucose tolerance, and prostate health in

men, " says Nestle, MD, professor of endocrinology and metabolism

at Virginia Commonwealth University, who studies DHEA's effects on

diabetes and blood clotting.

From what I understand, you are under the supervision of a terrific

physician. Try not to worry. If something feels like it's too much,

then just back off a little. Communicate with your doc.

>>I was inquiring because of the higher DHEA supplement and wondering if it

might be helping with giving you some estrogen.<<

Maybe but I kinda doubt it. When I first started taking it, I was still on

Premarin, a huge dose. It was about a year after starting it that I switched

from Premarin to Progesterone creams. I also take Pregnenolone when I can get

it. I am out right now and wondering if that is why I am feeling very lazy again

or if it is time for another increase in meds:(

So far, I am OK on the Osteogel and progesterone. I am hot either because I go

off all hormones while on my period or because of the cortisone injection I am

not sure. I went back on the Osteogel today
