Guest guest
In my view, the prednisone could be causing that. (And it certainly causes wakefulness.) When I first start a round of prednisone, my joints get very achy (though I’ve never had your kind of crippling pain). That wears off, and then the prednisone actually helps the joint pain (and the Crohn’s, asthma, etc., anything auto-immune. Prednisone initially screws up your immune reaction (and then suppresses it). But not without exacting a toll on your body in the long run (and sometimes fairly quickly). I can’t understand why a urinary infection would cause joint pain, especially that intensely. I suggest you try LDN along with the diet. n From: BTVC-SCD [mailto:BTVC-SCD ] On Behalf Of llemux Sent: Monday, April 13, 2009 2:04 PM To: BTVC-SCD Subject: Crippling Joint Pain I have gone back on the prednisone and last night I had one of my worst attacks of joint pain ever. I started taking 15mg two days ago and I couldn't sleep last night. I could barely move my feet. Going to the bathroom was like a nightmare since I was like a cripple. Strangely enough no-one believes that this could be the cause of my problems. The doctor says its a urinary tract infection. I thought the main symptom was burning when you urinate. My mother says its my fever. I didn't know fevers could cripple. I also cannot concentrate to study for any period of time as how I normally would. Am I paranoid or is the pain in my elbows, knees and feet a cause for concern? Llemar Jamaica SCD 1 year,Crohn's 5 1/2 years

Guest guest
The joint pain is probably coming from the bacteria settling in your joints. I have Crohn's arthritis which also comes with a fever and crippling pain, usually in the sacroiliiac. From prednisone I have experienced extreme pain in the area behind my ankles and the inner point of the knee joint. Prednisone will certianly cause that but usually when you are lowering the dose. The joint pain should subside when the infection in your blood stream is cleared. I've had great success with cipro/flagyl combo in the past. Since using SCD I've never had the fever/infection again. Are you taking prednisone for a urinary infection? I haven't heard of that. Guest guest
I have to second the prednisone theory. I get very bad joint pain that makes it very difficult to walk, without crying out in pain, when I take prednisone. But if you have Crohn's, arthritis is common during a flare as well...so..it could be that as well. Hope you feel better soon! Guest guest
Can you get ahold of epsom bath salt or other kinds of bath salt (Epsom or Dead Sea preferred) and soak in that. It might provide some relief for achiness. Mara > I have to second the prednisone theory. Guest guest
Dairy causes me severe joint pain, especially in the elbows, knees and feet and hips; less so in the shoulders and spine. Triggers severe joint pain to the point I can't walk and need narcotic pain relievers (had some on hand from knee surgery). I had to stop eating yogurt or cheese 3 years ago. I wasn't eating much dairy at the time, but it was still enough to cause problems. I still get joint pain in my arms and legs, but I have other neurological issues causing problems affecting muscles and joints. And the pain level from these causes is much less than what dairy does to me. Have some arthritis too, but again, pain is a lot less and not as crippling. Crippling and severe joint pain is a common dairy sensitivity. Kim M. SCD 5 years
